Cloth Diapering

As a follow up to my CD @ hospital post...

If you brought CDs...did you bring your own wipes? At first I thought I'd just use the disposable ones provided at the hospital, but then I realized that was silly. I have a whole bunch of wipes, how hard would it be to throw them in with the CDs as I use them. My only debate is, should I just bring the spray bottle and plan on filling it with water? Or should I fill it with a bit of wipe solution? (My wipe solution is going to be water with the CJ's Carcass Cleaner)

  • Just ask for an extra peri bottle. Fill with water and wet as you go.

Strangely, my hospital uses disposable diapers but cloth wipes (aka washcloths).

  • My hospital did not recommend using regular disposable wipes (al la pampers or huggies) and so they supplied us with a disposable paper cloth to wet and wipe their little bums with.

I use my peri bottle at home, works like a charm! And our hospital did the same thing. If you're already doing dipes, definitely take along the wipes.

Awesome thanks guys! Got my wipes packed...I put in a small spray bottle just in case, but I'll ask for a peri bottle as well and just plan on using water until we get home :) Thanks!

Just my opinion as a part time CD but I would not bother with cd or cloth wipes at the hospital. You'll have enough things to worry about after giving birth

I disagree!  We used cloth in the hospital (but used the wipes they provided, as they weren't chemical-filled disposable wipes), and it was no problem at all.  DH actually did all of the diaper changes and insisted on using cloth instead of the disposables they provided!  It was super easy just to throw the diapers in the washer when we got home.

OP, I will mention that I definitely over-packed diapers for the hospital!  I guess I didn't realize that babies hardly pee at all and really only have small amounts of meconium in the first few days.  And I use water to wet my wipes all the time, and just keep it in a spray bottle.  :)

Like dealing with the rash the pampers at the hospital gave my daughter?  That was fun.  You're going to have to deal with diapers, no matter what kind they are.

I have read that hospitals don't like to use disposable wipes on newborns because their skin is so sensitive.

Yeah, I'm really not understanding why it would be any more difficult than sposies. We'll have to deal with diapers regardless...what's the difference between throwing the dirty dipes in the trash vs. throwing them in the wet bag I'm bringing? And, if it's really that annoying, I'll just use sposies...but I'd really like to try it out; I know I'll regret if if I don't at least try!
