Fainting spells?

Yesterday I had a really scary moment while waiting for the bus....  I started to get a little dizzy, thought it might be hunger so got out a granola bar.  That didn't work and the dizziness got worse, so I thought maybe I needed some water.  I started walking to get a bottle and got SUPER dizzy, sweaty, started seeing spots.  I thought I was going to pass out on the street!  It was super scary!  Luckily I made it to buy water and stood, bent over, for 5 minutes while drinking it and getting my balance back.  Called my doctor and she said it happens in 2nd tri and can be caused by blood pooling in the legs while standing still.  She didn't seem too worried and recommended lots of water and rest.

Well...this morning it happened again while waiting for my bagel at the deli (only standing for 1-2 minutes).  I went in to see the doctor (and got to see the baby on U/S) but everything was fine (baby's heartbeat was good and s/he even waved hello!).  My Blood pressure was a little low but nothing to be alarmed about.  She even had me see the cardiologist who did an EKG--everything normal!  Just wondering if anyone else has experienced this and had any suggestions to avoid it!  I am going to try to move my legs when I have to be still, but any other advice?

Re: Fainting spells?

  • I had it a lot several weeks ago and sporadically now, even though I'm not quite 2nd tri yet.  I've also had vertigo issues today.  Sorry to hear it, but also glad to hear its normal.  I'm pumping the water in today because I felt so shaky earlier when I was on my feet for a couple of hours.

  • It has happened to me, ususally more often if I don't drink enough water, if I get up too quickly, if the room I am in is not well ventilated, and if I stand in the same spot for a while. The first time it scared me, but the doctor said it was fine to take it easy. She said it was most likely caused by lack of water and the changes that my body was going through. GL I hope that helps.

  • I feel faint anytime I stand up too fast, and sometimes just out of no where but I haven't lost consciousness. My blood pressure has been lower than normal, plus I've heard it's normal for the second trimester so I just try to sit up/get up slowly.
