Just got back. So go ahead and flame me if you wish cause quite frankly I don't care. But this is something you should be aware of if you are in my situation. I smoke, have for years and really cut back the last 8 months. But because of this I have delayed my treatment 3 months from my last cigarette. You need to be 3 months (at least with my RE) free of nicotine to begin a treatment plan.
Anyway onto what he said. He is pretty sure it is unexplained IF pending anything major coming from the testing. He didn't see anything in my history that made him think it was something else.
The plan is medicated cycles and IUI. Cycles will be monitored of course. I am to have b/w for hormones and a bunch of other things, but nothing fertility related. I have my HSG scheduled for Sept. 19th. My mom and I really like the RE, not so keen on the nurse though. Oh well. I should get AF this weekend and then I will call and go in for my CD3 b/w and u/s. Then in two weeks I go back in to meet with the RE to discuss the exact treatment plan in detail.
That is that. I am devestated that I cost us 3 months, but DH and my mom both smoke and haven't really helped in the me quitting process...until now. We are all quitting as of today.
Punky, Baboo and Kathy I forgot to mention the RE told me to stop taking my temp, using OPK's and timing sex. Ummm ok...I think I will this month because of the stories I have heard after one has their HSG and getting KU. I know it is a slim chance, but one none the less. He also said there is no need to stop taking medicines such as Advil, etc. Only ones not to take are ones that say do not take if you are, may become, etc. He said I should never live my life upon what if. Just thought that was interesting and I am sure every RE has his/her opinions on the matter.
Re: RE Update (long)
Good luck on quitting the smoking. Hopefully you can all do it together and it will make it easier.
No flames from me! It can be incredibly difficult to quit and if you are having a tough time over the next couple weeks and need to be distracted by some awesome PIPs, just page me! I know it's not a very helpful thing...but it's about all I can do.
I'm glad you like the RE!
Good luck quitting. It is the hardest thing I have ever done, but stick with it. It does get better the longer you stay smoke free.
(((Hugs))) RVN!!!!! Good update and good plan. If you need moral support quitting, call me, you have my number! Get on wellbutrin or chantix, it helps take the edge off. You CAN DO IT!!!
ps: I got yelled at by my RE about smoking and I fricking QUIT 10 YEARS AGO!!!! Sadly, she attributes my issues to my exstensive tobacco use history.
Distraction by PIP is the way to go.
Love you BBJ!!
I applaud you in your 3 months free of nicotine! Good job.
My RE had the same 3 month requirement. But it was for both the wives and the husbands. Period.

Really? Yeah I get nervous because I have smoked for a few years....but it may not be your smoking in the past. We all know its terrible..but I also lots of women who conceived while still smokers. Dont let the RE make you feel guilty about it. Youc an't live your life always thinking."Could this effect fertility?" I need to quit. crap.
Thanks I may need to! The RE referred to quitting like a toxic ex boyfriend, said you can't have sex with him one last time (meaning don't leave and smoke, but I did because I told DH and my mom midnight tonight is my time...and with all that was dumped on me I needed it one last time) and don't call the ex (meaning no medication) he said because it is still there with the medicine. He used to smoke and quit cold turkey. We shall see! So in other words if I am all of a sudden a grumpy biatch on here you will all know why.
Thanks dear! I may need them during the work day! Work is going to be the hardest because of the morons and crap at my office. So that was my little bit of sanity during the day!
You have something concrete to quit for. That will help. Cold turkey will not be easy, but since you said you have been cutting back, shouldn't be as bad.
My RE didn't at all and I was truly surprised. I thought I would get reamed for it, but like you said how many drug addicts get pregnant at the drop of a hat. He said the same thing, so it sucks. And that was my exact reaction today too. And I had been trying all week to be good...now on I don't have a choice...and I think that is what it will take too.
The nurse that was with the xray tech for my HSG told me the same thing about SOME women being able to get pg after an HSG. I thought maybe she was just trying to make convo but is it really true? I know it's not for all but I hadn't heard of this before.
ETA: Congrats on quiting. I'm not a smoker but one of my friends is and she quit because her lil girls kept asking her too because the oldest learned in school that smoking kills. I know it must me hard.

Good luck on quitting smoking! I know how hard it can be. I still slip up from time to time, but thank you SO much for sharing because now I'll know better (since an RE appt may be in my near future for me).
GL to you!!

not to hijack this post, but:
here's my experience: HSG#1. O was 17 days late (on CD39) after HSG. Still TTC'ed for 13 more months before BFP
HSG#2 (needed it redone before IUI's for baby #2). O'd only 2 days later than usual (CD24) and BFP that cycle. Didn't need IUI after all this time around.
a friend had her HSG around cycle 11 and got her BFP that cycle.

Unfortuantely it is my assigned nurse for the duration unless I ask for another one I am assuming...Kathy can you help a girl out?!?
hijack away! I have heard some good and some bad stories, like yours O'd much later and then also got BFP that cycle. So I am going to continue everything through this next cycle just cause you never know! thanks for sharing!
First off: Congrats on quitting!!!! I smoked for 15 years and quit 3 years ago (yeah, do the math on that one....I started REALLY young!) It was so hard, but I'm so glad I did it! If you ever need moral support, feel free to PM me! So, so proud of you and so glad your RE has a plan!
Second: Although I know a bunch of people who quit using Chantix, I'd caution you to be careful if you go that route. I took it for a while and it was amazing; I had NO desire to smoke. However, after about a month, I started having psychological problems. I ended up going off the Chantix and then found out it was actually my thyroid going completely bonkers and not psychological at all. About 6 months after I had my thyroid killed, I found out that there has been an issue with Chantix causing thyroid problems like mine (including to 2 people I know). If I had known, I may not have needed to have my thyroid killed after all. Not to try to just freak you out, but if you do go on it, make sure you are carefully monitored by a doctor who knows ALL the potential risks!
ETA: Sorry for being a dirty lurker!
GL quitting smoking. It won't be easy, but I can promise you, it will be worth it.
My RE also told me to stop temping, as you can see by my ticker...I didn't. Honestly, I have been staring at my chart for a year + and you better believe I want to see what my BFP chart looks like (if I ever get there ::sigh::). I just keep charting to myself because it doesn't interfere with our treatment plan. It's something I'm doing for myself (because I'm a crazy lady).
Lots of luck to my Golden Girls
TTC since 8/09 . MC 1/15/10 @ 7w4d // 6/2/10 @ 8w2d
TTC with no menstrual cycle since 6/10, finally got one 8/25/11
Good luck on quitting! My Mom has smoked (quit several) times and still continues to do so, I've watched how difficult quitting can be, I really feel for you. Stay strong! Are you going to use anything to help you?
This may sound dumb, but the last time my mom quit, she got hypnotized and quit for three years (only began smoking again because after 26 years of marriage, my dad left her.)
Best of luck to you, YH and Mom!
