Please tell me to stop worrying

Now that we got the blood work back from our NT and all is well, I  think I must just need something to worry about. The docs kept saying the baby measured 4 days behimd, but the picture they gave me of them measuring says 2 days behind. So now I'm freaking out about the baby measureing small. It was not cooperating but I don't know how to stop worrying before my next appointment in 2.5 weeks. Any ideas? I hate being such a worrier!

  • Their measurements aren't exact at all.  My NT scan results paper said +/- 6 days.  Also 4 days is nuthin'.  You might deliver early or late- no way to know when that baby will be ready.  EDD is not an exact science.  My dr has waffled between using LMP, ovulation date and u/s measurements.  Finally he just seems to pick something at random.

  • I was just at the doctor yesterday and I was measuring a day behind. The doctor told me it's typical at this stage in the game to measure 6-7 days behind.  So try not to worry Big Smile.  Your LO will catch up and all will be fine!

  • Are you sure they have the due date correct in both places?  My dr told me we're due March 12th but the pictures show March 13th and therefore it looks as though I am measuring small but I think its just a technical error.  I wouldnt worry too much especially since you got a clear NT scan!  Everything is fine!  ;)

  • Thanks girls. I know it's well within the margin of error, I  just naturally worry. I think I'm more worried because the NT wasn't all clear at first. NT was 2.3 when they wanted 2.2... the blood work lowered my risk dramatically (1:2700). But I'm still going "but the baby measure behind so what if there's a problem". *sigh*. It's going to be a heck of a time once this kid is actually born to not give myself a heart attack!

  • By the time baby is big enough for the NT scan, they're all growing at their own pace, a few days give or take doesn't mean much in the long run.  If your doc isn't concerned about the size, you shouldn't worry yourself!!

  • Was your doc concerned? If not, then I would assume that all is well. A couple of days is not a big, as the PP said, EDDs are not exact. Take a deep breath, try to relax, and replace all of your negative thoughts with positive ones. I'm a worrier too, so I know this is easier said than done. But, I have realized that worrying never solves anything.
  • Both of my peanuts were measuring a few days behind at my 7 wk u/s (one 5 days behind). Now at my 13 wk, they are both ahead by a few days. It's totally normal.
