C-sections

How long until I can get back in the gym?

I have a c-section scheduled next Wednesday the 14th after spending 3 days a week in the gym lifting weights and running (well, walking lately!).

I want to get back to working out as soon as it is safe and comfortable... how long did it take for you to get clearance to work out, and for you to be comfortable doing so without overdoing it?

Thanks, ladies!!!

  • I got full release I think at 6 or 8 weeks. I can't really remember which.

  • When I left the hospital, they gave me a bunch of information on what I could do right away, and what I should wait on. At my six week PP appointment, the OB told me I could do whatever I was comfortable with, in moderation. DD was born just before Halloween. I was doing a lot more by Christmas, but didn't get back to "normal" until Spring.
  • I was cleared at my 6wk checkup.

  • I was released at 5 weeks. I plan to start next week (week 6).

  • I believe at my 1 week appt I was reminded not to lift anything heavier than a jug of water. At 6 weeks I was fully released but told to resume any pre-delivery activities slowly and take it very easy.

  • I got a release at 6 weeks and mostly I was fine. Ab work I had a hard time with until closer to 16 weeks PP.  I just took it easy and modified the ab work. I kept working them, just not too hard.

  • I was told in the hospital 8 weeks. I started doing light exercises (including some 20 second planks) at week 4. My OBGYN chewed me out and told me horror stories. I know it sucks to wait, but I would do what your doc says.

  • I have yet to be cleared and I'm dying to start up cardio again. I've heard a few horrible stories from women who haven't waited, so I'm doing my best to just stick to walking with my LO.
