Re: madelyn

  • Yeah, I got in at like 8:45. Oops. ;)

    I love clothes :)

Game day buttons are buttons that our bookstore puts out the Friday of every home game with like a little saying or something on it in regards to the upcoming game. Like tomorrow we play Mississippi State, the Bulldogs, so the button for this week says "Bulldozed". Last week, in honor of our poisoned oaks (that the dumb bammer poisoned/killed last year when we beat them in the Iron Bowl) it was "Toomer's Forever" (since Utah State isn't really a rival game). LSU last year was "Miles Away From a Win" (ie coach Les Miles). And the last time we played UK at home it was "Here Kitty, Kitty..."

That sort of thing. It is fun!

  • Yeah, it is fun! Each department gets a certain allotment of buttons. We also have gameday t-shirts and I get those for free through DH's job but I never wear the before a game--superstition.

I try! I see so many prospective students and donors and all during the day that I always have to make an attempt..

  • it sort of makes me all nostalgic - going back to college and all -- rooting for our lax team (I went to a D-3 school with a great lax team) but it was fun.

    have a blast!!!

we are going to a navy game this year and I am pretty stoaked. DH went to a Boston game and said it was awesome!

  • DH gets very nostalgic, too. He played college football and we just got an invite yesterday for his homecoming stuff. We can never go, though, because he always has to be here for our games with his recruits (it is the weekend of the Florida game this year). Bummer.

Have fun at the Navy game! The tradition with the military schools is awesome.

That's one of the things I love about Auburn so much, that we put so much emphasis on tradition in everything. Just makes it so extra special.

  • Yeah DH played college ball too and I played FH -- I always go back for our alum games, it is so much fun.

And you are so right -- tradition  makes things so much more fun...and how are those trees doing? I remember you posting about that last year.

  • Unfortunately the trees probably aren't going to make it :(

Here is the last update from the university.

We are still allowed to roll the trees this year but they are having to take extra precautions when cleaning them--removing the paper is done completely by hand. But they expect that by the end of this year, they'll both be gone. The one on Magnolia (the "second" tree) is doing better than the main tree on College but both look horrible. That's the very corner of campus downtown and it used to be so beautiful, a great gateway to campus but now it just isn't the same :( Breaks my heart whenever I go by there.

  • Im sure it is -- i hope they can survive -- the campus is GORGEOUS!!! And what a 'family', just based on the amount of people that are working on the trees to try to save them and I think its wonderful that they're taking precautions to remove the paper this year -- as you said, its the traditions.

Im sure it is -- i hope they can survive -- the campus is GORGEOUS!!!  Thanks! I agree, it is a very beautiful place. The sense of community, the fans, everything, it is a great place to live and work. And what a 'family', just based on the amount of people that are working on the trees to try to save them Yep! We are the Auburn Family through and through! No "nation" for us, thankfully! and I think its wonderful that they're taking precautions to remove the paper this year -- as you said, its the traditions. I love the traditions..the traditions of Toomer's, of Tiger Walk, of game day buttons, of our never-changing band routine/pre-game, that our uniforms NEVER change, all that, it is just so awesome!

You should! Great place, wonderful education, safe community, lots to do, low cost of living (high compared to most "small towns" in the south but low compared to the rest of the country), fantastic weather, we really haven't been effected by the bad economy...the list goes on and on.

Not sure if they are hiring law enforcement though..:)

Ill check -- thought Im pretty sure DH is set in his job and wouldn't like the weather -- he hates the heat. Me, however, does not. I definitely long for that sense of 'family and community' that you speak so highly of!
