Poll - S/O Bh's train idea

Since it is so rainy and yucky and we are home a lot due to short transition days at preschool, we need good activities. I was inspired by BH's idea and thought that if we could share ideas with one another, we might all find some creative things to do in the rain.

What are your creative ideas for rainy day fun? During Irene we piled up porch furniture pillows in our living room and made a pillow fort for jumping. Hours of entertainment.

  • we have been building forts in the dining room lately. Other favorite activities in our house include lots of Play Dough, jumping on the bed and playing with cars in our big bathtub.

We are running out of ideas.....

  • At DD's daycare this morning, they were bowling with these. I guess you could also make your own bowling with things around the house like those containers that the puffs come in.

We also like to play with legos.

I have been trying to build up a stash of stuff in my "rainy day" closet to pull out at the right time. Right now I have stickers in there, finger paints, playdoh, and stringing beads. When I'm at stores and see a little activity that looks neat, I pick it up and put it in that closet. The craft stores have lots of cute little activity packs for the older kids like making little figures out of foam, etc.

  • we've got a cheap-o rug in our entry way that I'm not attached to & I've been blowing bubbles in there for Sprout to catch. Since I'm doing the blowing, there's not slippery soap everywhere. ;)  We've also been playing in the rain as long as it's not thundering.  This requires a bath afterward, though!

if any of y'all are on pinterest, there are lots of cute kiddie crafts under the "kids" tag.  Things like Footprint art (turning a footprint into a fish or penguin or whatever)...

  • When stuck inside, I try to do some baking (usually like oatmeal bars or other things that don't have raw eggs b/c DD loves to eat off what we're mixing). We also try to do some sort of craft (painting, footprint art, mosaics, etc). One neat thing we did was take plain white rice, food coloring and made different colored rice. When it was dried I dumped it into a large container and made a sensory box. It's like an indoor sandbox.
  • I put DD in our bathtub without any water - just her different toys - some new ones, and she was still in her clothes.  She had a BLAST.
