You mean AIOs vs pockets? I like being able to adjust absorbency with pockets. I use whatever inserts are lying around. I don't even know where they came from half the time.

oh good...so you can use any insert with any brand! Good to know. Which type of inserts to you prefer....cloth, microfiber, wool, etc.....

This. I tend to stuff with a combo of microfiber and hemp.
I have heard that doubling up with a hemp insert at night works well for longer periods of time. Do you think that microfiber or cloth is best for daytime absorbancy?

Inserts will typically be microfiber, hemp or bamboo. Hemp and bamboo are trimmer than MF, more absorbent, but absorb slower. MF is cheap. A good combination is MF on top and hemp/bamboo on the bottom so the hemp/bamboo has time to absorb.
Another type of material used for inserts is Zorb. I don't know anything about it, I've just heard it mentioned.
We use mostly pockets past NB stage, with a combo of fitteds/wool at night (though I have used pockets at night too).
We use BG's mostly and for day time, we use the MF insert that comes with the BG's. Then when we were able to use them at night I did a "sandwich" of big MFinsert, hemp and then the BG NB insert that I stuffed into the pocket. It worked good for us for a while. Then we started doing Fitteds with layers of hemp and a wool cover over that for night time.
We use mostly BG 4.0's with the MF inserts they came with. Works fine so far, however the second they stop working I'll be cool with trying whatever else. I have a couple of hemp inserts I've tried that I like, but they do take longer to dry which kinda bugs me. The AIO's I've tried just aren't as absorbant as pockets so I've destashed them all!

This is what we do too. The MF inserts that come with the diapers are all in the closet in a tub.
I do like AIOs for DH and babysitters. We also use them for going out along with Thirsties Duo Diapers.
