How common is a BFN before a BFP???

I am curious because AF is a week late so I took a HPT and it was negative. I took it as just that but it seems like everytime I told someone they had a story about themselves or someone they know getting a negative before a positive. So did you get a BPN before your BFP?? If so how many?

I got 2 BFN before my BFP, but those were at 8 and 9 DPO. I should not have even been testing...

Got my positive at 11DPO but it was still a few days before I missed my period.

I got three... I tested the day after a missed AF, three days after, and five days after.  Wasn't until a week and a half after missed AF that it came up positive.  It's possible I had a really long cycle, but not sure how else to explain it.

The other question is: do you chart? Do you know for sure that you are late or could you have perhaps ovulated late?

I got a negative at 8DPO.  I didn't test again until 13DPO and it was positive.  Completely because I tested too early.

I got a BFN at 9dpo and BFP at 11dpo, my period wasn't suppose to start until 13dpo, so I wasn't late when I tested.

I didn't get my bfp until 18 dpo. ?I had 2 bfn's, one at 10 dpo and one more at 12 or 13 I think.

Very common!  I got a BFN at 14 DPO and tested positive at 15 DPO.  It aint over till its over.

With my first I didn't get a BFP until I was a week late and even then it was extremely faint. With this one, I was testing like crazy because I was so late and didn't get a BFP until I was almost 3wks late. Clearly, my cycles are a bit off though. GL!

Thanks for all the answers. No, I have not started charting yet. We're not even "trying" yet we're just not preventing. I am pretty regular though so I thought it was odd. It took us a few years to get pregnant with DS. We would like to have another and our friends and family would also like it.  Any little thing makes them tell me "You're probably pregnant."

With this pregnancy, I took a test on a Sunday, Neg.  That Tuesday I was suppose to get AF, nothing.  I waited until Thursday to try again & got a very faint 2nd line.

But, I also had super sensitive tests, moreso than store bought (www.early-pregnancy-tests.com).  They show results faster than store bought ones.

Anyone who tests too early will get a BFN before a BFP. It's as common as impatience.

This. If you test too early, or the hCg levels are too low in your urine, then you will get a negative result.
