Are stretchmarks supposed to hurt?

Ok, this is baby #2 for me but I didn't have any stretchmarks with DD1.  This time my belly is out.of.control. and I still have 6 weeks left.  It's shiny, looks like I've been mawled by a tiger and just today noticed I'm developing a linea negra.  Perfect.  Add to that, the stretchmarks actually hurt.  Like painful if anything is touching or rubbing them.  I have an awful time finding things to wear that don't irritate my stomach.  Am I alone?  Anyone have any ideas or suggestions on how to help relieve this a bit?  Or am I just screwed until the kid makes his appearance?

Re: Are stretchmarks supposed to hurt?

  • It kind of sounds like it might be PUPPS. My SIL had it, and it was awful, but went away after she delivered. There are creams you can use to soothe them, but I'm not sure what kind (I know, I'm so useful...sorry!) I'd try researching PUPPS a little and see if that's what you have, though. It might give you some more direction for things you can do.

  • mine sting and burn, but not all the time. I've been rubbing them with shea butter.
  • I have 1 new one with this baby and it hurts so bad. It's right at my waist line and I can't have any waist band touching it.  I found that if I use a Bella Band around my stomach it puts a small amount of pressure on it and helps with the pain.  It's soft and no stitching touching it.  It doesn't take the pain away completely but helps a lot.

  • my belly is sore too--i never got them with DD.  i am using CeraVe cream in the tub, it seems to help.  for me it isn't the actual stretchmarks that are hurting as it is my stomach stretching.

That's probably what's going on here.  The area around my now "outie" belly button is so sore!

yes, i didn't stick out this far with DD, i was more round.  i was just at the Dr today and she looked at my belly and said it looked fine when she felt it and listened to his HB.  so i think it is just the stretching that is making it sore.

Same here!  I carried out front with DD too but this is crazy!  I'm measuring about 37 weeks and I'm barely 34.  I think I'm carrying a sumo wrestler. :)

  • I agree with PP that its because of the stretching. My whole belly hurts like hell but the worst of it is where my stomach is popped out the most. I asked my OB at my appointment yesterday if there was anything I could do (I have been using belly butter but its not helping) and he suggested to use a lotion with oatmeal in it. I haven't tried it yet, but I hope it works. :(

  • I just went to the doctor today and my tiny stretch marks have bumps that look pimple-ish.  Doc said that is definitely PUPPPs.  It burns and itches even in the middle of the night, which is AWFUL!!!  The ONLY thing that I'm suppose to use is hydrocortisone cream and no shea or cocoa butters.  Those could actually make it hurt worse.  Good luck.  Its the home stretch!!!!
  • I've had some pain on my right and left side where I've had a few stretch marks appear.  The only thing that I can say has possibly worked has been Shea Butter.  I use it everyday and it seems to be working.
