Hi Ladies,
I need advice. I am currently 27 w prego with my first. I need to decide whether to schedule a c section or try vaginally. My dr is not pushing for anything, but his honest reccomendation is planned c section ( even though his c section rate is very low ( about 15%). I wanted to list out my conditions and see what you ladies think. I am NOT against c section, i just want what is best for my baby. I will do what i need to do.
We had to go thru fertility treatments to get prego. Multiple immune and thrombo issues. I had one mc before. I am currently on lovenox ( blood thinner due to MTFHR), i have a 7 cm fibroid outside uterus. I also have small frame, 5'2. I have GD. So far the baby is breech, so of course if he does not turn, it will be c section with no options.
My dr feels that fibroid adds additional risk. it is big, might be in the way and might start bleeding . He tells me i can try vaginally and he feels there is a higher risk i will end up with c section. I do not feel it makes sense to torture myself and baby trying vaginally only to end up with c section. Advice? thanks
Re: Need advice
I would be most concerned about the fibroid and go ahead with the c section. I know someone who lost their child at 6 months along because of a fibroid and they scare the living crap out of me.
I do not have any experience with your conditions, but I have experienced both an unplanned and planned c-sections. The planned was a much better experience. If it was me, I would go with a planned.

I would take your doctor's advice, particularly since you have a bunch of factors (breech alone typically pushes the scales). The fact that your doctor has a low C-section rate is (and isn't forcing it on you) makes it seem like it is what he thinks is best for you and your baby (and ultimately that matters MORE then what a bunch of us think
Good luck!
Where is the fibroid located?
I had a 9cm fibroid on the outside of my uterus, but it was down by my cervix and actually was actually pushing against my cervix so I did not have the option of a vaginal delivery.
This.
I have zero medical expertise, but I did have a c-section with my first child. It was unplanned and was a result of her basically not fitting. After thirty hours of labour i was only 3cm dilated and I just took the advice of the physicians.
All I can say is that I feel C-sections are somewhat demonized these days. I know in our prenatal class, the teacher barely wanted to speak of them as if they were this awful thing that we shouldn't even acknowledge. But MY experience wasn't that bad at all. I received excellent medical care and could not have been more pleased with all the doctors and nurses leading up to, during and following my operation!
I guess I was lucky, but it didn't seem to me that my recovery was all that much worse than many women who give birth vaginally. Especially if you're dealing with some potential complications, there's no reason to believe that a vaginal birth will automatically lead to a seamless, speedy recovery.
I did, however, have a LOT of support from an amazing husband and incredible parents. Without such a support network, dealing with a newborn and recovering from major surgery might not go so smoothly so this is definitely a factor to consider - what support system do you have in place?
Honestly, the extra nights in the hospital weren't too bad! I had great drugs and round the clock care. It felt nice to know baby and I were being looked after. Her pediatrician who has priviledges at the hospital, visited on a daily basis as did my amazing OB.
Again - can't say what you should do (other than maybe trust your doctor), but I wanted you to know that the C-section experience doesn't have to be the horror story it's sometimes made out to be!
fibroid is outside uterus, closer to the back ( and it was causing me a lot of pain at around 16w by possibly pressing on some spinal nerves).
my high risk dr says she would deliver me vaginally (or at least try to), but she is not the one actually delivering me. Blood thinners add additional risk to both vaginal and c section. If i go into labor earlier than planned and still on lovenox ( which stays in your body 24 h), i have the option of either vaginal delivery without epidural or a c section with general anaestesia. I do not want to deliver vaginally without pain management, it is not for me. I am not a fan of general anestesia either. No win here.
