We watched a video in our childbirth class list night, and the mom delivered while wearing sports bra top and "birth skirt". It looked like a tennis skirt or yoga skirt really, but sat under her belly and was easily removable with front fasteners. I hadn't really thought about what I'd be wearing. I'm not concerned with appearances really but i am planning on a lot of changing positions, moving around, walking, etc. while in labor, and know hospital gowns tend to lack coverage in the back. Has anyone thought about wearing something other than a gown?

Re: Birth Skirt?
I bought one of these but I honestly don't know if I will wear it or not. I'm sure when I'm in pain from the contractions or even just pushing, what I'm wearing will be the last thing on my mind.

I'm not sure they will let you. I wanted to wear my own fuzzy socks, and I was forced to put on the ones with tread on the bottom.
May be something to ask about before you purchase one.
Definitely will be wearing the hospital's duds.
If needed, you can put on two gowns - one open in the back, and one on top open in the front, so you aren't completely open for business and flapping in the breeze if you are moving around a lot.

This
for labor, im wearing a hospital gown..you can put a 2nd one on behind you to cover your behind..or my unit has robes made of hte same material available too
plus, when im in pain, i will care less about what im wearing
I received one of these as a gift (the one with the mai tai's on it) and I really like it. I know people on here say how ridiculous they are, and I might not have purchased one for myself, but it was a gift so I am going to wear it.
I asked about it on the hospital tour and they said it was fine. If you get something of your own I would just make sure you ask the hospital/birthing center about it.
a friend of mine is using a Binsi skirt: https://www.birthinbinsi.com/index.htm
it's not something I personally want to spend money on right now, but if I was gifted it or something I'd definitely consider it! But I definitely think you should wear whatever makes you feel the most comfortable during birth.
I hate hospital gowns. I'll labor in whatever I feel like at the time, be it naked, in DH's old tee-shirt, a sports bra, etc. But I'm also planning for a water birth at the hospital so in the tub I'll either wear a bikini top on top or nothing at all.
