anyone take both kids to your doctor's apt.?

If so, how do you do it? What's your strategy? DH works a lot and we have no family around so it looks like I'm going to be in this situation probably more than once. Just wondering how you do it. TIA!

  • Nope I was fortunate to have my cousin around to babysit my toddler.....was a good thing too since my son was a big crier the first few weeks.....I seriously had to hold him and try to calm him down while having my six week pp examine and pap.  Fun times!

  • I would leave the older one with my friend and take the baby. If I had to bring both I would bring my double and bring stickers for the older one to play with. Usually your 6 week visit is short and sweet.

  • I bring my kids with me to almost all of my dr's appointments. If I know it's going to be a very long appointment or kids aren't allowed (like during my ultrasounds) I am lucky enough to have MIL available to watch them.

I am however, looking into a babysitter that is available during the day. Now that we're going to have 3, I won't be able to have them all contained in a stroller. I hate having to pay someone, but the situations should be few and far between.

  • I've done it. It's really not that bad. You can just ask a nurse to help out during the part where the doctor would be checking you out.

  • All the time.  I try to get the first appointment of the day, and pack a small bag with snack and toys/books for the older one.  It usually keeps them occupied unless we are there for an abnormally long time.

  • I would if I had to, but, luckily, my MIL is able to watch the girls tomorrow so that I can go to my PP appt. If I had to take both of them, I'd just put them in the double stroller and take some things to keep DD1 occupied.

  • Thanks for the replies. Unfortunately it's not an OB appointment but my regular doctor's apt. for my thyroid that I have to do every once in awhile. Luckily, it's usually pretty quick. We're going to be in a military town so I'm sure they see "single" moms like me all the time. We'll see how it goes....LOL.
  • I take both kids to every doctor's appointment.  My doctor's appointments, their doctors appoinments.  Heck I even took both kids to the dentist with me.  lol

I put the smaller one in the stroller and I bring lots of snacks and games for the older one. :)

You're my hero. Thank you! Smile

  • I just did for the first time! I loaded them both up in the double stroller and hoped for the best. :) it really wasn't too bad. The baby slept most of the time. Dd was the one I had to entertain- I brought books and snacks.
  • I am not a huge fan of the TV babysitter but you can get netflix on your smart phone. Dora or sesame place on demand anywhere has saved me with my 2 year old a few times.

  • Yep, I take both in a double stroller. I let bigger kid almost 2, out in waiting room while we wait. If I need to hold one of kids so the doc can examin him, the other usual crys, there is alot of crying. If I need to feed baby after the nurse ysually helps with older kid.
