Praying for our 1st child

Hi my name is Alexis me and my husband have been trying for a few yrs. We been pregnant a few bout all have ended in a M/C. We have been married 1yr now and really want to have a baby. I'm 27 and he is 30. I just went and talk to my OB this week. He told me that I need to be on a drug called Clomid. This is going to be my first time taking it. Can someone tell me what to expect. We are praying that it works.

  • I'm sorry for your losses.

I would strongly suggest either pushing for testing before starting Clomid, or finding a reproductive endocrinologist (RE) to do testing and any treatment. Clomid is, unfortunately, given out by a lot of doctors without proper testing of women to find out why they're having trouble. As with any drug, it has side effects.

Testing should include bloodwork on Day 3 and Day 21 of your cycle, a dye test to make sure your tubes are clear, and a semen analysis for your DH. Some of this may be waived because you've been pregnant before. But if you've had multiple losses, there are bloodwork panels for recurrent pregnancy loss that can be performed to see if there are issues. As well as simple ultrasounds in your cycle to find out if you have an issue with your uterine lining.

All this may sound overwhelming, but I'd hate for you to go through multiple cycles of Clomid treatment (and you're limited in how many you can do) when the issue is really something unrelated to what Clomid can fix.

    GL.
