By 8:45 this morning I had a second grader standing next to me saying, "I don't feel very....." at that moment she proceeded to puke all over the floor....splattering my flip flopped feet. It took every ounce of my being to stand there with her and not add my own puke to the mess. My whole day has been thrown off ever since! Hoping for a better Thursday!

Re: Oh the joys of teaching (nbr)
oh yuck, I've had that too. Once during a field trip over an hour away I had a little girl in my Grade 3 class puking non-stop. We had to call her mom to come pick her up but she was miserable until then.
Yep....well at leat no one's every told us we can't?! I had a sundress on today with flip flops. We have a pretty "easy" dress code (or so I've heard from other districts) Jeans and a school shirt every Friday, which used to be my favorite part....not when jeans don't button, not as much fun! :-)
I teach high school English language learners. Many of my students are pretty new to the country. When they get sick, they won't stay home. They either don't have anyone at home and are too afraid to stay home alone, or their culture/family values education so highly that they won't let them stay at home unless they are deathly ill. I do my best to convince them to go home or to the office, but most of the time, they just want to stick around because their friends are in class or because they feel like my room is a second home (I see them for multiple periods a day). I disliked it in the past, but now that I'm pregnant, I worry about it more.
I *really* love Pinterest!
I think the "best" puke day ever was two years ago for me.. I teach 8th grade.
1st period - Kid #1 puked in the trashcan in the back of the room
2nd period - Kid #2 puked in the trashcan by the door (as he was leaving)
3rd period - Kid #3 puked in the recycle bin.. cause that's all that was left
5th period (4th's my prep thank goodness) - Kid #4 runs to the bathroom and pukes right outside the bathroom door..
Guess Who Got the Stomach Flu the Next Day?!?!!!
oh gross...I'm definitely not able to deal with vomit very well, lol! I had something similar happen last year with my second graders. The little boy complained of tummy aches...I told him to wait it out (because they figured out if they complained they could get out of class and go to the nurse) and if it got worse or he felt like he had to throw up, I'd send him down. So he comes up 15 minutes later, says I'm fine, and joins us in circle time. Five minutes later, mid sentence, he projectile vomits all over himself and two of my other girls. I just kind of looked at him for a minute...
oh the joys of teaching :-)
