We have been starting to check out strollers, thats one item I feel is to expensive to put on a registry list. Did you all have travel system strollers when your twins were first born to 30 lbs? Did you get another stroller after they grew out of the infant car seat combos??
We wanted to know what you bought and why. We are considering the snap and go and eventually a BOB duallie for future.
Thanks ahead for your feedback!
Re: Did you buy two strollers for your twins??
We bought the BJCS and put a few accessories for it on our registry (second seat, car seat adaptors). I felt weird putting such an expensive item on our registry. I used this stroller from day 1.
I did end up buying a double jogger (a Baby Jogger), and had a hand me down combi twin.
We got one to start out with. We got the Graco tande double stroller. It fit both of our carseats nicely and I liked having a tandem stroller to use as soon as they were ready for one (around 6 months). I still keep it in my trunk for shopping trips. Later on, I'd had enough experience under my belt to determine what would suit our needs in a SBS. We ended up with an Instep Safari SBS jogging stroller for walks outside, the zoo, etc. I say go with either a tandem, or snap n go to start out with and see what you'll want and need down the road.

My mom bought us a City Mini Double. We used it starting at about 2.5 months. We adapted it by putting a newborn headrest in and reclining it all the way back until they had better head control. It worked for us. I didn't see the point in getting a travel system.
If I were doing it all over again, I'd get a snap-n-go double for the itty bitty infant stage b/c it was a hassle taking them out of their car seats and putting them in the stroller.
We have 5:: 2 were free with the purchase of their carseats.
The tandem was a must for us b/c the girls were preemies, and we had tons of appointments at the Children's hospital downtown in the winter, and it was a lot of walking. I've walked and carried both carseats on my arms, and it gets heavy.
The Combi Twin we use a ton now that they are older. And the BOB dualie was given to us as a gift.
We got a double Snap N Go for when they are infants and in infant seats.
I plan on walking ALOT with them and wanted a nice jogger so I got one that had a built in MP3 player for once they are old enough to support their own heads and not need the infant seats ( I wont jog with them right away--I promise!)
Then we also got a Eddie Bauer tandem stroller because its thinner/lighter than the jogger to keep in the trunk for the mall ect once they are no longer in infant seats.
We probably went overkill on strollers, but each one has its own purpose--I also have a cousin who is 6 months behind me and having twins so she'll probably get to take over the Snap N Go just in time!
I started with the DSNG that we bought from DH's coworker for $15. Once I figured out what I wanted, I got the BJCS when the babies were 3.5 months old. Had I known about the BJCS, I would have bought it from the get go with car seat adapters.
I also have a Baby Jogger City Classic SBS all-terrain stroller that we use for walks, etc. that I picked up on CL for $75.
We got the City Mini for our real stroller. I liked that I could take it into tight places like stores and through doorways because I planned to go out with the girls a lot. I also liked that it was very light and easy to fold up.
We got a snap and go for the very beginning when they couldn't hold their heads up well enough for the BJCM. It is nice to just be able to drop the cars eats into it, especially if the girls are sleeping. I don't plan on using it for much longer because the girls really like the BJCM, but I found it on CL for $30, so it's no big deal.
We lived with the DSNG until about a month ago, then we transferred the girls to the City Mini.
I pretty much found the first few months, the easiest thing to do was not have to take them out of their carseats, so just snapping them in made things a breeze. I honestly wish they could still do it, but they behave a lot better when they can see everything in the city mini. I bought mine off craigslist & even picked up two single DSNG from a garage sale. I'd be willing to sell you mine.
In the beginning we had a Graco Duoglider and a Quattro Tour Duo... I would highly recommend getting a DSNG instead!
Then we got a Chicco side by side stroller that I love, it folds up almost to the size of a regular single umbrella stroller, fits through doors easily and is comfy for the boys and me to use.
I also have a Baby Trend Expedition that I like, but I have had a ton of problems with it, including right now I have to call the company and order a part because the stupid freaken front wheel keeps popping off...
We also have two Cosco single strollers that we use for major travel, we took them on vacation to Washington DC, to the circus in Boston, to the zoo, shopping in North Conway, places where its a tight squeeze anyway and having a massive stroller to maneuver is just too hard to fathom! These strollers were $20 a piece, the size of a regular single stroller and worth every penny and then some! They are easy to fold down and open up, they are comfy for the boys, they have a good basket underneath (unlike umbrellas which don't and fall over when the kids get out and you have stuff hanging from them!)
I highly recommend getting a couple cheap single strollers for those times when it just is too difficult to get a double stroller around, or those times when you are only out with one LO... we use ours sometimes when we take K to the cardiologist and can't find a good parking spot in the hospital lots... not too often, but definitely worth keeping at least one of the singles in the trunk of my car.
Dont worry about putting it on your registry. It's one of those things that people might go in as a group to get you. Or family. Our families bought our strollers from the registry.
That's what we did.
