Did you buy two strollers for your twins??

We have been starting to check out strollers, thats one item I feel is to expensive to put on a registry list.   Did you all have travel system strollers when your twins were first born to 30 lbs?   Did you get another stroller after they grew out of the infant car seat combos??

We wanted to know what you bought and why.  We are considering the snap and go and eventually a BOB duallie for future.

Thanks ahead for your feedback!

  • I haven't bought anything yet, but DH and I are planning on getting the Baby Jogger City Select, and purchasing the car seat attachments along with it.

  • I heeded advice from other moms (and MoMs) and skipped the travel systems. We have a double snap n go and just bought a City Select. If I had known we would end up with that stroller, I would have bought the carseat adapters for it rather than the DSNG. But personally I think it's better to wait until they're near 6 months to buy a stroller you plan to use for years. I think it's hard to guess how you're really going to use it -walks, doctor office, mall, etc.

  • We started with a DSNG and used that for 6+ months. Now we use our Duoglider and individual umbrellas (occasionally). I'm thinking about getting a city mini though. GL!

  • We started with a Baby Trend DSNG (biggest piece of crap).  When the twins were 2m old IL's called and said they wanted to buy us a double stroller, which one did we want.  I knew I wanted the Kolcraft Contours Options Tandem because I loved that the seats could be turned different directions.  I was so excited that it could also be used as a DSNG so I was able to get rid of the Baby Trend stroller.  The Kolcraft is my only way out of the house.  I HIGHLY recommend it.  I don't see me ever needing another stroller and wish we would've gotten it from the beginning instead of the BT.
  • We started with the DSNG and got a BOB Duallie, which we didn't start using until about 8 months when they outgrew their infant carseats. We also got a MacLaren Twin Triumph for places that are too small for the BOB, like stores, doctor's offices, etc. We love all our strollers.
  • We bought the BJCS and put a few accessories for it on our registry (second seat, car seat adaptors).  I felt weird putting such an expensive item on our registry.  I used this stroller from day 1.

I did end up buying a double jogger (a Baby Jogger), and had a hand me down combi twin.

  • We got one to start out with.  We got the Graco tande double stroller.  It fit both of our carseats nicely and I liked having a tandem stroller to use as soon as they were ready for one (around 6 months).  I still keep it in my trunk for shopping trips.  Later on, I'd had enough experience under my belt to determine what would suit our needs in a SBS.  We ended up with an Instep Safari SBS jogging stroller for walks outside, the zoo, etc.  I say go with either a tandem, or snap n go to start out with and see what you'll want and need down the road.

  • I put the stroller on our registry so I could use the completion discount to buy it but someone bought it for us for my shower. So don't worry about not putting it on there because it's too expensive. You might be surprised at what people will spend. I registered for the Kolocraft Contours stroller and my cousin gave us her Double Snap N Go. I'd like to get a side by side jogger also for when we go to the park or elsewhere that's not smooth terrain. I'll use the Contours for trips to the mall or places where a narrow stroller will be more suitable.

  • My mom bought us a City Mini Double.  We used it starting at about 2.5 months.  We adapted it by putting a newborn headrest in and reclining it all the way back until they had better head control.  It worked for us.  I didn't see the point in getting a travel system.

If I were doing it all over again, I'd get a snap-n-go double for the itty bitty infant stage b/c it was a hassle taking them out of their car seats and putting them in the stroller.

  • We got the Graco Duoglider as a shower gift. Our infant carseats snap into it. It's a much heavier combo than the DSNG, but we also wanted a tandem double for shopping for when the boys got older, so we wanted something where we wouldn't have to buy a new stroller when the time came. We also bought a SBS jogger from Once Upon A Child (after trade-ins = $17). Honestly, I love this stroller (I think it's an InStep brand). Such a smooth ride. We'll probably use it for any occasion we can. We also have 2 cheapie umbrella strollers for them, but we rarely use them.

  • We have 5:: 2 were free with the purchase of their carseats.

The tandem was a must for us b/c the girls were preemies, and we had tons of appointments at the Children's hospital downtown in the winter, and it was a lot of walking.  I've walked and carried both carseats on my arms, and it gets heavy.

The Combi Twin we use a ton now that they are older.  And the BOB dualie was given to us as a gift.

  • We got a double Snap N Go for when they are infants and in infant seats.

I plan on walking ALOT with them and wanted a nice jogger so I got one that had a built in MP3 player for once they are old enough to support their own heads and not need the infant seats ( I wont jog with them right away--I promise!)

Then we also got a Eddie Bauer tandem stroller because its thinner/lighter than the jogger to keep in the trunk for the mall ect once they are no longer in infant seats.

We probably went overkill on strollers, but each one has its own purpose--I also have a cousin who is 6 months behind me and having twins so she'll probably get to take over the Snap N Go just in time!

  • We used the DSNG (got it on Craig's List for ~$30) until the girls were 6 months and now we use a Baby Jogger City Mini. We also have cheap single umbrella strollers that we use on occasion. I would definitely advise getting a stroller that car seats can snap into initially.

    Ditto
  • We have a Baby Trend DNSG and I love it.  But we also have a City Mini (single) with an infant car seat adapter, and my favorite is to have one in that stroller and wear the other in the Mamas & Papas Morph carrier.  I don't think any double stroller is that great, honestly--they're long, or heavy, or unwieldy, or a combination of all of those.  Strolling one and wearing the other is great for walks, shopping, etc.  We do have a double BOB for when they're bigger, but we haven't used it yet.
  • I started with the DSNG that we bought from DH's coworker for $15.  Once I figured out what I wanted, I got the BJCS when the babies were 3.5 months old.  Had I known about the BJCS, I would have bought it from the get go with car seat adapters.

I also have a Baby Jogger City Classic SBS all-terrain stroller that we use for walks, etc. that I picked up on CL for $75.

  • I'm very happy with my two strollers (and I did a lot of research on it).  For the first 5 or 6 months I exclusively used my BJ city select with the car seat attachments.  You won't need a DSNG if you go this route.   At around 5 months (when they have better neck control) I starting using my BOB revolution duallie for our walks/jogs around the neighborhood and I keep my BJCS in my car at all times for anytime we take the babies anywhere.  I like having the BJCS in the car b/c it is tandem so it is easy to maneuver in stores, doc office, etc.  Plus it is not that heavy so it goes in and out of the car pretty easily.  I don't even fold it up, I just put it in the back of the minivan as is.  They were fairly expensive strollers, but I don't regret my purchases at all b/c I use both strollers almost every day.

  • We got the City Mini for our real stroller. I liked that I could take it into tight places like stores and through doorways because I planned to go out with the girls a lot. I also liked that it was very light and easy to fold up.

We got a snap and go for the very beginning when they couldn't hold their heads up well enough for the BJCM. It is nice to just be able to drop the cars eats into it, especially if the girls are sleeping. I don't plan on using it for much longer because the girls really like the BJCM, but I found it on CL for $30, so it's no big deal.

  • We lived with the DSNG until about a month ago, then we transferred the girls to the City Mini.

I pretty much found the first few months, the easiest thing to do was not have to take them out of their carseats, so just snapping them in made things a breeze. I honestly wish they could still do it, but they behave a lot better when they can see everything in the city mini. I bought mine off craigslist & even picked up two single DSNG from a garage sale. I'd be willing to sell you mine. :)

  • In the beginning we had a Graco Duoglider and a Quattro Tour Duo... I would highly recommend getting a DSNG instead!

Then we got a Chicco side by side stroller that I love, it folds up almost to the size of a regular single umbrella stroller, fits through doors easily and is comfy for the boys and me to use.

I also have a Baby Trend Expedition that I like, but I have had a ton of problems with it, including right now I have to call the company and order a part because the stupid freaken front wheel keeps popping off...

We also have two Cosco single strollers that we use for major travel, we took them on vacation to Washington DC, to the circus in Boston, to the zoo, shopping in North Conway, places where its a tight squeeze anyway and having a massive stroller to maneuver is just too hard to fathom!  These strollers were $20 a piece, the size of a regular single stroller and worth every penny and then some!  They are easy to fold down and open up, they are comfy for the boys, they have a good basket underneath (unlike umbrellas which don't and fall over when the kids get out and you have stuff hanging from them!)

I highly recommend getting a couple cheap single strollers for those times when it just is too difficult to get a double stroller around, or those times when you are only out with one LO... we use ours sometimes when we take K to the cardiologist and can't find a good parking spot in the hospital lots... not too often, but definitely worth keeping at least one of the singles in the trunk of my car.

  • We have the Peg Perego Duette SW. While it is expensive if you get the peg perego car seats you can use it as a DSNG in the beginning and then the seats attach when they get older. Its a bit of a pain to travel with because it doesn't fold with the seats on but I love it. Its a bit expensive but if you consider what you would spend on a DSNG and then the stroller you want it might actually be cheaper.
  • Dont worry about putting it on your registry.  It's one of those things that people might go in as a group to get you.  Or family.  Our families bought our strollers from the registry.

  • We have the BJCS and LOVE it!  Used it from day one with the car seat accessories.  We borrowed a DSNG to travel with last weekend and I complained the whole time about missing my BJCS.  Its a personal preference choice.  If you have a Buy Buy Baby around you, you can go and drive strollers around the store.  We did this before purchasing the BJCS.  We could not be happier!

  • We bought a Double Snap n Go and it was great for the first 4 months. Then we also got a City Mini double. We used both strollers until the boys were 6 months and then ditched the DSNG because by that point with two heavy babies it was hard to push/steer. It was really great in the beginning though. A friend loaned us her Duoglider (tandem, which can be used as a travel system in that the car seats can be attached to it) when the boys were 10m old. I have used it occasionally but mostly prefer my City Mini.

  • We used the DSNG for about a month and then I got the BJCS.  The BJCS is my only double stroller now that the girls are in convertible seats.  I love it!  But I also like tandem strollers and not SBS.
  • I used a DSNG through the winter. Now I have a SBS (City Mini Double, used outdoors, mostly) and a tandem (City Select, used indoors, mostly)
  • we registered for a double stroller that the infant car seats would fit in and also for a DSNG and amazingly received both as gifts! I think for a while the DSNG will be the easier route but I'm so happy to have all them! I wouldn't worry about price, we noticed sometimes a few people will go in on a big ticket item. Better to put it all on there and see how it goes, we were gifted all of our big ticket items which shocked us!
