sitter follow up

I am completely overwhelmed - I've had 7 or 8 sitters apply to my posting!  Now I have to make good on my offer. 

Anyone ever hire a sitter without actually joining sittercity.com or care.com?  I only have 6 days left on the membership but it looks as though you might not be able to contact the sitters without joining...so did you join for a month or year? 

Also, do you typically hire more than one?  Like have one as your regular and then one as a back up?  Do you tell one that she's the back up?  Oi vey.
