Empty nest- now what??

Dropped DD off at 1st day of preschool today.  I haven't been able to find a job since moving, so now what the heck do I do all day?  My mom said to knit something.  Lol That's a big help!

  • Take some classes and get a hobby.  Cakes, knitting, sewing, etc.

  • OMG, I'm so envious! I wouldn't even know where to begin! I would work out, shop alone, see a movie, eat at a restaurant, meet a friend for lunch, watch TV uninterrupted, take a leisurely shower, read a book, take a walk, etc. All things I haven't done in many months. Lucky you! :)

  • I can't wait until both kids are in school so I can clean the house, go grocery shopping and do other things alone during the week instead of waiting for DH to be home on weekends!

  • Can you enroll in a class?  Maybe something you are interested in at the community college like literature or cooking.

  • Find someplace to volunteer.  Not only will it make you feel productive and let you interact with adults, but it could lead to a job down the road.  Our local United Way keeps a list of non-profits that are in need of volunteers.  My mom has volunteered at her local food bank for several years since taking an early retirement and finds it very fulfilling.

  • I agree on taking a class and working out, getting shopping done etc. And I am jealous, wish I had all of that time.

This. I'd say volunteer or take a class, because both could lead to job prospects and look better on a resume than "sat at home reading/knitting/watching TV".

  • Meet up with a mother's group, grocery shop, vacuum, read, cook dinner, laundry, meet up with a friend, volunteer, take a nap, take an exercise class, etc.  Enjoy!
