MoM with twins and pregnant, how do/did you...

manage the first trimester? I was feeling great until a couple weeks ago, prior to that I was on melskitchen food blog daily planning out my nice suppers and then BAM I have no desire nor do I want to really even cook, I'm nauseas all day- today is not so bad...

This weekend was the boys 2nd birthday and thankfully it was just close family I had to force myself to get things done and was way behind the ball when it comes to planning (which is NOT like me) I just don't know how I'm going to manage feeling like this?

Any advice? I'm thinking of getting some ensure or some shake since I don't have a lot of foods that I want to eat....how are you all feeling?

  • I was really lucky, my morning sickness last 2 weeks, but it was all day long, and mh was overseas for work.  It was rough but the boys were in daycare so had to struggle through work and have easy, quick things ready for the boys for dinner when I got home.  The rest of the first tri i was just exhausted, I literally would go to bed at 830/9, sometimes earlier.  I ate a lot of carbs, it was pretty much the only thing I could stomach for a while.  It's gotten a lot better, now my body just aches and gets tired easily and the boys play together a lot so I can get things done while they're entertained.

    Feel better! you'll make it!

  • My morning sickness with the singleton was WAY worse than it was when I was pregnant with the boys. Luckily for me, at the time the boys were still taking a morning nap, so I only needed to make it until about 9:30 or so and then I would go back to sleep while they napped. During those weeks, not a lot got done and DH made dinner or we ordered in. I also went to bed super early and ate whatever I could stomach--lots of cereal and pb&j.

But, the silver lining is that basically as soon as I hit 2nd tri, I started feeling so much better. I got my energy back, had more of appetite/less morning sickness and didn't get any of the headaches that I had during 2nd tri with the twins.

Hang in there! We watched a lot of PBS Kids in the beginning and now at the end too. :)

  • I had pretty bad morning sickness with my singleton and none with the boys. I have no good advice, I got up in the morning turned on Sesame Street for the boys, put cereal in their snack traps and prayed that there were no tantrums before the nanny arrived. I generally had a coke when I woke up and a second one with gummy bears on the way to work. I felt better from 11 - 2 and just tried to eat well when I could. Eventually it passed.

I also took b6 supplements, which really helped.

  • I honestly have lucked out and haven't had much morning sickness at all but was REALLY fatigued. I had a 2 week awful stretch where we moved and I worked a ton of shifts, including several night shifts. This topped with the fatigue and I was not happy. I told DH I was going to quit my job. I was so cranky and I spent a lot of time wallowing on the couch feeling sorry for myself and not getting anything done. The boys ate cold cereal for breakfast every day and mac n cheese or hot dogs for dinner.

That two weeks is over and life is better. I did not quit my job ;) My boys are getting healthy meals again.  I guess it is one of those things that you just have to say, this too will pass. Already I feel so much better and I'm only 12 weeks. Don't know what 3rd trimester will look like, but I think I'm good for a while.

ETA: I also took naps with them every day for a couple weeks straight. I had so much to do but come noon I was pooped.

  • I haven't been able to cook for weeks. We've been living off of Tombstone pizzas and Stouffers meals that DH has been making because I can't even go in the kitchen without feeling sick and gagging.

  • Oh, and napping while the boys napped was KEY for me!

  • Thanks everyone for your thoughts and advice! It's nice to hear it from other MoM's going through the same :)

I'm glad to know I'm not the only one when it comes to a lot of this stuff!  I felt a little guilty not "cooking" like I use to for the boys and resorting to "quick and easy" things to feed them and they've been watching a lot of Diego to keep them occupied! LOL

I do try and take naps while they're sleeping so it does help a lot, but I feel sometimes I wake up and feel even more tired....hahaha  I'm sure soon enough it shall pass :D

This too.  I would nap when the boys napped and I didn't even care if there was a giant pile of dishes in the sink when DH got home from work.  My M/S was tough in the first tri (the boys still loved baby food green beans at the time and they would make me puke every time).  But once I got to the second tri I was fine.
