I had GERD before pregnancy and was on prescription meds for it (gastro esophageal reflux disease). My heartburn since pregnant has been awful. I started just with tums...no more than recommended dose. That stopped working and Doc said it was okay to use mylanta. I never take more than dosage, but i def take the max allowed for 24 hours. I take about 2 tsp. 3 times a day, sometimes 4. Again, no more than the max allowed 24 hour dosage. It no longer works, plus I just read that you shouldn't take any aluminum based products while pregnant as high levels are toxic. Of course they said don't take anything with aluminum hydroxide....which is the main ingredient in Mylanta. The only liquid antacid that doesn't have that is Milk of Magnesia, which I will try. Anyone else hear that Mylanta isn't okay and is toxic?
Re: Scared of Mylanta now???
Is there a safe prescription med you can take? Will Zantac or Prilosec work for you (both are on the safe list I got from my MW, and it sounds like PPs got the ok as well)? Check with your OB. Milk of Mag is also a laxative, so unless you're constipated, it may cause a new set of problems for you.
