I went to a class at the hospital where we will have the baby last night and one of the things they talked about was to get the flu vaccine or not to get the flu vaccine. This had come up a short while ago in someone's post so, I figured I would follow up.
Essentially, she said that you really should get the flu vaccine when pregnant. However, the type of vaccine that you get is very crucial. As mentioned, you want the dead strain of the virus, not the live one. The live one comes in the mist form up your nose and the dead virus as a shot.
What was an addition to anything that was said before is that you want to make sure that you get a single line virus shot, not a multiple one. This is because the multiple one typically contains mercury which we all know is not good for anyne, especially a pregnant woman.
Just thought you might like to know as we head closer to flu season!
Re: FYI: Flu shots part 2
I'm surprised on there comment about mercury. My husband is in drug design at a pharmaceutical company and based on the research he has done, almost all (if not all) flu shots you get now do not have mercury in them anymore.
I got one 3 years ago with mercury in it, and it wrecked my nervous system. I'm glad to hear there might be an option with no mercury because I was going to have to forego the flu shot completely because I am ultra sensitive to heavy metals now.
