Napping and night sleeping questions

Hey ladies!  I haven't been here for a while...got my hands full with a four year old and my May baby. :)  I need some napping and night sleeping suggestions, or maybe just someone to tell me this is normal and it gets better. DS1 never used a pacifier, so this is new to me!!  DS2's pediatrician recommended putting him down drowsy with his pacifer and letting him fall asleep on his own.  He can do this most times, but as soon as he loses the pacifier, he wakes up and cries until we put it back in his mouth.  He will go right back to sleep until he loses it again.  This can go on all nap/all night.  It's making me CRAZY!!  Any suggestions??  Also, are your babies on a good napping schedule yet?  DS will sleep for an hour here, twenty minutes there, but nothing consistent yet.  I remember DS1 would take two long (2-3 hour) naps and then sleep well at night, but I don't remember what age that kicked in.  Thanks everyone!!!

Re: Napping and night sleeping questions

  • If your LO can go to sleep on his own with the paci, I bet he's not far going to sleep on his own.  I would take the paci away and and work at that.  Otherwise you'll be up constantly, and what is the point? My friends 2 year old still wakes up for his paci several times a night.  It'll probably suck for a night or six, but I'm sure it'll get better.

My LO is just starting to get on a more regular nap schedule, but he still gets random sometimes just to keep me on my feet.

  • I haven't tried the drowsy but awake thing yet, but also do the paci re-plug all night long.  I haven't had the guts to try and take it away, but once we settle into a routine with me going back to work, we're going to do full blown sleep training, which will be the drowsy thing and probably no paci.

DD is getting into a nice nap routine though.  Pretty much like clockwork, two hours after she wakes up, she's ready for a nap.  If we push it much further than that, she gets fussy and harder to get to sleep.  She had been sleeping  30-40 minutes but the last couple days she's been sleeping an hour or a little more.
