Hi all,
I had thrush once before and it lasted two months, so I'm pretty determined not to get it again. I think I have an infection from my son's recent bite and I might need to take antibiotics. Taking antibiotics for something unrelated is what got me thrush the first time around (I'm the type of person to get a vaginal yeast infection a large percentage of the time that I take antibiotics.)
Anyhow, I would like a reminder on the steps I can take to prevent thrush, particularly with regard to diet. I love sweets and bread but I plan on avoiding them while on antibiotics. Any other tips in this regard? Should I cut out pasta? I will also eat yogurt. Let me know what else I should be doing. I work so I can't have my nipples hang out in the air but any tips with nipple care are helpful (esp things I can do in the evenings at home.)
Thanks!
ETA: oops, meant to post this to the BF board but feel free to chime in! :-)
Re: preventing thrush (advice needed)
Hi- we just got over this a couple of weeks ago:
1) Take a probiotic (I like the New Chapter All Flora from Whole Foods; its in the cooler case in the vitamin section)
2) No flour/no sugar
3) Definitely eats yogurt and look for one with active cultures; such as Chobani or Activia
4) Use lotrimin cream on your nipples after each feeding
5) If LO uses a paci, change it and sterilize after each feeding
6) Wipe down LO's toys that have been chewed on (if possible) once per day using clorox or lysol
HTH and good luck!
