NT results back

I'm so relieved!  I just got my results back and they sound great -- 1:5,301 for Down Syndrome and 1:9,301 for Trisomy 13/18 which is a great improvement from my age statistics (35 yr old) of 1:266 and 1:466, respectively.  I'm so excited!  We are definitely going to skip the CVS and amnio now which were suggested given my age (that whole "advanced materal age").  YAY!

  •  Great results.

I was a little shocked with our results.

DD #1 got a 1:10,000 chance for DS back when I was 29.  I'm 31 now and with this pregnancy it went down to 1:550.  I kind of wonder if they made a mistake somewhere.

  • Yay good!  Getting to opt out of a CVS or amnio is always a win in my book.

  • What a huge relief that must be!
  • Thats Awesome. I have a dumb question (yes i'm a new mom so getting use to all these things) Do we request a NT or is it procedure? I'm about to go for my second dr. visit on thursday and I'm suppose to request an NT or does do Doctors usually do them when the bloodwork is done, I am suppose to get all my blood work done this week.

You usually have to request it; it's usually done around 11 to 14 weeks.  The blood work they are doing is different than the additional bloodwork they do for the NT scan.  For my dr. office, I actually went to another place to have my NT scan and associated blood work don.

  • Thank you raceyrae! I will speak with my doctor about this on Thursday. This is another reason why this site is good, we get ideas and good feedback!
  • Great news!!!
  • My office suggested to schedule it, even if we weren't sure we wanted to do it, just so we wouldn't miss the window.  I know some practices don't call it an NT scan, but it's an optional test that they should tell you about.

I think they also call it the First Trimester Screening.

  • The Dr. asked if I was interested in it at my 8 week appointment.  It was scheduled for 4 weeks later plus I also had my 12 week appointment done that day too (2 separate appointments)
  • That's great!!
