Gender Reveal Ideas???

So I think I want to find out the gender of our baby  a new way this time...the last four times I have found out by the u/s tech. telling me during the 20 week scan.  This time I think I want to do something special and have the tech. seal the gender in an envelope for us so we can find out that evening WITH our parents present.  I think they would feel honored to find out with us...the problem is the only way I can think of to do it is dropping the secret results at the bakery and having them bake either a pink or blue cake so that when we cut it the color will tell us...is that boring or do you have another idea???  Suggestions are welcome, we still have time!

  • with our 1st we had the tech write it down & put it in an envelope and that was exciting enough.  However i saw this last year and might be something you could try:  https://thelensloves.com/berry-sweet-gender-reveal-gina-zeidler-photography

  • I think the cake idea is adorable.

Someone on here suggested getting a pink "Its a Girl!" or a blue "It's a Boy!" helium balloon and gift wrapping it and letting the parents open it, so it pops out of the box with a suprise.  I think this is what we would do if we were going to find out, we haven't made up our minds yet.

  • i just thought of something else!  i also heard of someone going to the appt & finding out, then inviting their family over for a party...and in the backyard they had pink balloons attached to all the chairs.  They just opened the blinds and everyone could see. Something like that could be cute too...

  • I think the one where you ask a local party supply store to blow up blue/pink balloons and put them in a box is the most fun.  I would love opening and have them come popping out in either pink or blue to know. We're team green, so we get a different kind of "pop out" surprise!

  • I'm actually surprising my husband.  We are going out of town for our anniversary in October.  I'll be right around 19 weeks.  On the way to our 'surprise to him' destination, we are stopping at a 3d/4d ultrasound place.  Then, the tech is going to put the gender in an envelope.  We'll take it to a bakery at our destination, where they were do the blue or pink frosting on the inside of a cake.  We will pick the cake up on Monday (our anniversary) and find out the gender just the two of us.

Not that original but it will be exciting to us!  Last time, my in-laws were waiting outside the u/s room and pounced as soon as we got out.  I want to have more time to savor it ourselves before anybody else finds out.  Plus I think it will be fun to have to wait all weekend to find out.

  • If you're going out to dinner, do you know where?  Can you ask the chef to clue you in on the secret via the food order?  (IE, garnish the plate with sauce in the words "It's a ___" or bringing out scoops of blueberry ice cream/strawberry ice cream?)

I'm definitely thinking about food lately, can you tell?

Theoretically, you could also do something like buy a pink receiving blanket and blue receiving blanket, and ask the tech to put the gender appropriate blanket in a box to bring with you to dinner.  It'd be a little harder to make sure that you don't see the remainder until after dinner.

  • I think we are going to have a dinner at our house for both sides of the family. I really like the idea of a bunch of ballons in one big box and then opening that, but I do not think that is good for the whales. :( We will prolly do the cake thing. Due to everyones schedules we are going to get the U/S on a Thursday and the dinner is not until Sunday. It is going to be so hard not to peek all weekend.

  • They used to make pastel colored marshmallows, do they do that anymore?

I was thinking I'd make my best girlfriend bake some cupcakes with the appropriate colored marshmallows in the middle for a get together of some sort and break into the cupcakes at the same time, kind of similar to the cake frosting in the middle.  I saw a picture where someone was opening a box of balloons, and their face was priceless.  I'm sure you could just get someone to tie the balloons to some long ribbon so they still flowed out of the box, but didn't harm any whales in the end...

  • Fyi for those who give a bakery or someone else an envelope, make sure to get two envelopes! Saw on the Nest once that the bakery lost the envelope and the poster found out the sex on the phone with her OB's front desk. Bummer!
