anybody do daily injections with their LO's?

insulin? gh?  how's it going?  any tips? 

we're starting growth hormone therapy with my 5yo and i'm wondering if you have found that anything makes doing teh shots easier.  i've heard that a little lidocaine on the spot before doing the injection can help.  anything else?

We give DD a daily shot of HGH.  We started back in April.  She has actually done really, really well.  What med are you using?  We have the Genotropin pen.  Ours came with cover that keeps me from seeing the needle go in - that really helped me.  The one time I did it without the cover (before I realized we had it) I about lost it.  We don't put anything on the injection site, other than wiping it with the alcohol swab.  We did start a sticker chart for DD, so we give her a page of stickers to choose from while we do the shot - this keeps her distracted because she'll do anything for a sticker!  For awhile we were giving her a small treat (just a few M&Ms) after the shot, but she's stopped asking for it.  I think it helps to have two people do it...one of us talks to her and helps hold her still while the other gives the shot.  We've both had to do it multiple times on our own and it's not that big of a deal, but I definitely prefer having DH help.  She "helps" us get the medicine ready, which she likes, and she loves to tell people she's taking her "big and strong" medicine.  GL!

My DD is almost 6 and we?ve been doing daily Genotropin (GH) shots since she was 4.5. I?m going to be completely honest, but it was horrible for us in the beginning. She would be in tears every night, and it was so hard the first 2-3 weeks. We started giving her treats afterwards, like a couple gummy bears and that helped.. Nowadays, she does great and doesn?t even ask for her treats. She knows what to expect and knows that the medicine helps her grow. I started looking into a product called a Buzzy, that numbs the area before you inject. Fortunately, she got used the the shots on her own, so I never ended up buying a Buzzy tool. Our injector pen also has a cover that hides the needle, and that makes her less scared as well. DD is on it for Turner Syndrome. Good luck! I hope your son handles it well and I hope the medication works for him.

We've given our DS genotropin shots since he was about 10 months old.  He is 3 now.  We give him the shots around 10:30 p.m. or later every night after he's already asleep - that works for us!  We were told that the body releases hgh around that time on its own - and he normally flinches around but doesn't really wake up.    Sounds crazy I know - but it really has worked.   

That and making sure the alcohol dries on his leg before sticking the needle in so it doesn't sting!   Good luck!   It gets better!!

Our dd takes nutropin gh nightly. However, she is only 6 month so I am no help as far as how to give the shot. She does not even flinch when we stick her, however she jas never known any different. My oldest dd helps get the shot ready, maybe you can have your ds help with the process to make it less traumatic. Good luck!

I was given growth hormone shots as a child every day.  My mom did it while I was asleep - I think a couple hours before I had to wake up for school.  That way I was always kind of out of it, and fell right back asleep when it was done.  It was almost like it didn't happen.  I don't remember the shots ever being traumatic or stressful for me.

With my growth hormone injections (I'm a TS girl), we used the Inject-Ease.  It was a lifesaver.  Once my parents started using it, the shots were no problem for me.

I give #3 GH every night (Saizen Easy Pod which I *love*), since he was just under 4 weeks old.  He'll have it forever.  It takes about 6 seconds (needs to stay in for 5 seconds), but the Easy Pod is completely computerized and measures and injects with just a button. 

It's not his favorite thing, but I think he minds it less than the heel sticks for blood sugar tests.  Neither of which really make him do more than flinch anymore.  

I think the biggest thing is make sure to rotate where you give the shot...
