Baby Shower

I was wondering what is considered too soon to have a baby shower? My due date is March 5, 2012. I was thinking mid-Jan that way people have a breather after the holidays but some of my friends are saying early Dec or late Nov to get things out of the way. Not sure which route to take because being so close to the holiday, I dont want to inconvenience anyone.

I was thinking mid January as well but I'll be interested to see what everyone else says.

I was wondering the same thing.

I can tell you that H and I just went to a shower 2 weeks ago for someone who was due in the beginning of October and she gave birth 2 days ago. So 6 weeks might be pushing it as far as getting everything ready afterwards. I think the beginning of December might be better for those of you with early March due dates.

Waltz-you make a good point. I would hate to have my baby early and then have to deal with the baby shower afterwards. Just trying to be considerate of the holidays but I guess people could get baby shower gifts while they are Christmas shopping, it will be tons of sales lol

I'm due 3/6 and my mom is planning my shower for 1/28. I wanted to push it further back from the holidays while still having some time before I'm due. We aren't registering for any of the big nursery stuff so I'll already have the room set up.

My MIL asked me to make a list this morning and I was like WTF, it's too soon. Then I thought...maybe not! Dang. 

One of my GF's had her shower 1 month before her baby was due and went into labor AT her shower. She opened all her gifts then went and had her baby. INSANITY!

I was thinking about this too.  I was thinking maybe the beginning of December.  I know that sounds really early but, truthfully, I don't want to be a whale at my shower.  I just could not think of anyway to be anywhere near comfortable 6 weeks before I am due with a roomful of people staring at me.  Plus I would have to drive 3 hours to get there.  I am due March 2nd.

We are having ours November 12th so that anything that got missed can be received as Christmas gifts.  Or at least that was my sister's logic when she planned this.

I live 800 miles from my family, so my mother told me she will be planning a family shower for me in MD when I am visiting at Christmas time.  I'm not sure when my showers here at home will be.  Probably in January.

With my last pregnancy, I had my shower at 31 weeks. It's a good thing, because I went into PTL and was put on strict bedrest 2 days later! So, my advice would be to have it somewhat early!!

First go 'round I was due April 1st, we had my shower Feb 18th. Seems like your timing is very similar to what we did!

I was just talking about this with my mom and sister today.  Little sis is due late January, and we wanted to have a dual-shower.  I won't be going home for Thanksgiving this year (sadly), but will be there for Christmas, so we're doing it then.  Its a little late for her, and a little early for me, but since we live 400 miles from each other, its the only time we'll be together between now and the birth(s). 

Otherwise, I'm planning on a closer-to-home shower that I think will be in January...

My mom just called me about this the other day.  We are going to have it at my work (country club) and Dec. 17th is the only date they have open.  It is the week before Christmas, which kind of stinks, but everyone is local and it will be pretty small (40 people).
