Babys Heartbeat...

My SIL had a doppler that she let us borrow and we tried it out this weekend. After listening to my babys beautiful strong heartbeat for about 10 minutes we realized it was mine. Ha! I am not sure that we ever really found the baby's heartbeat, but we plan on trying again later this week as the baby gets bigger.

Re: Babys Heartbeat...

  • You'll know its the baby's because its super fast. Typically between 130-170 bpm while yours is half that. And home dopplers (especially the ones you buy in stores) usually don't work until late in the 2nd trimester. Sorry!

  • It definitely gets better the more you try...I also borrowed one and my friend told me that anything that registers over 120 is the baby's h/b. You will also be able to tell the difference once you get the hang of it. The baby's is about twice as fast as yours. I actually heard both mine as the baby's last night and was cracking up at the huge difference in the two.

My OB uses the same one I borrowed (that was pouched on eBay). You just need a reputable one...and by the beginning of the 2nd trimester it shouldn't be that difficult to find. I have found my LO's h/b every time I used it starting week 12 of my pregnancy.

  • Do the ones yall use show the heartbeat rate? The one she let me borrow does not.

Yes mine does show the h/b rate. I would suggest getting one that does. Everyone I know that used one that didn't show it said it was annoying never knowing if they were hearing the right thing (even one of my friends who is a registered nurse and pregnant returned the one she had that didn't have a digital reading bcs she found it difficult to figure out). If you search on eBay you can find one for about $60. The one I used is called the "Pocket Fetal Doppler."

  • I bought a Sonoline B this weekend and it took me a while to find the hb. I tried 3 times for about 15 min before giving up. Finally before I went to bed I tried it one more time and found it at 10w4d. I tried again last night for about 30 min and got nothing!

  • I tried for a while and couldn't find mine around 10 weeks.  Finally I read somewhere to use it near the hairline.  I find it every time within a few minutes.  Just look very low and on the sides as well as baby moves around.  Good luck!

  • LOL, I did this for a couple of weeks during my last pregnancy. Let's just say I felt like a real jackasss when I saw my OB and realized my mistake!
