Yoga to begin with while pregnant

Hi Bumpies!  The  internet doesn't seem to be helping me with this and I figured you were all a much  better resource anyway. I would like to begin a yoga routine focused on relaxation/circulation and awareness of the pelvic floor/delivery muscles. mostly relaxation/circulation since my headaches are so bad.

Any recommendations of poses, dvds or books?  an instructed class is not in the cards at this time, so it has to be "for dummies" if you will forgive my lack of knowledge.

 Thank you in advance!

Re: Yoga to begin with while pregnant

  • I used the prenatal DVD by Shiva Rea when I was pregnant with my daughter, I really liked it.  There were variations offered for each trimester, so I could use it during the entire pregnancy.  I can't remember the exact name of it but you can probably find it on Amazon.  If you have Netflix, you might also search there for prenatal yoga.  I also LOVED the Perfect Pregnancy Workout by Karyne Streben, not yoga, but she has you do kegels throughout.  Good luck!

  • I like Crunch YogaMama, its on netflix...I do not like the Shiva Rea dvd, but to each his own, it depends on teh style of yoga you are looking for. I pick up a lot of prenatal videos one by one at our local goodwill, they run anywhere from 99cents to 2.99 so it's worth it to me to buy them and try them out! Good luck!

  • While staying active during pregnancy is important, you must also be mindful of chosing a form of exercise that allows you to monitor your heart rate and body temperature.

A great addition to yoga exercise, allowing a safe and healthy environment for you and your baby is swimming. I highly recommmend taking up the sport of swimming during your pregnancy.
