Two Under 2

Do your Two Under Two share a room?

Pros? Cons? If #2 is a boy I probably won't put him in Eloise's room because it's very girly. If it's another girl i haven't decided if they should share a room. I'm worried about one waking the other.

Re: Do your Two Under Two share a room?

  • Mine have shared since my youngest was 5 months and Sttn consistently. It has worked out better then I expected. They sleep through 99.9% of each others noises and on the few occasions they did wake up they fell right back to sleep quickly. We are closing on a bigger house in a few weeks and we are going to keep them together. Now that they are a little older they talk to each other as they fall asleep and entertain each other when they wake up giving me a few extra min of sleep! I asked my 3 year if he wanted to have his own room and he said he wanted to share so that is what we will do for awhile.

  • The kids have since day 1. They have never woken each other up.

The pros of them sharing far outweighs the cons for us. There's only 2BR on the main floor of our house, and I wouldnt want to be walking up and down stairs for a baby/young toddler.

  • Mine do and I was very worried about how it would go (neither are very good sleepers and the baby still doesnt STTN).  But, its actually gone very well.  They never wake up to each other's noises and are comforted by the presense of the other. I love love love to wake up in the morning and hear them "chatting" away to each other :)
  • Mine have been sharing since DD2 was 6 months old. At first DD1 would wake up a lot, and it waswas crazy hard to get her to sleep, but I think that's a phase she was getting into regardless of whether they were sharing.

I have not had problems with DD2's sleeping ~ she almost always sleeps like a dream, and has been STTN most nights since a month old.

For me, the only real con is that their furniture doesn't match, and it irks me. lol I did not know they would end up sharing when we bought DD2's furniture.

  • Mine do not.  I like them having there own rooms. My 19 month will go play in his room and hang out while the youngest is napping in the mornings.  So, I really like them having there own spaces.  And, I enjoyed decorating both rooms in different themes.
