*Cute lunch check-in*

Prepare to be underwhelmed. Seriously.

This may be the cutest lunch of the week, which isn't saying much! Is it a lion? Bear? Anyway, it was an on-the-go lunch for DD to eat in the cart while I did some baby shopping. Sandwich on a roll, portable applesauce, baby tomatoes and celery. DD was very content to eat her lunch while I had plenty of time to shop, plus she wasn't asking for the salty Target popcorn. For the celery, I have to cut it into very thin strips or else DD can't chew it.

This is an example of how NOT to pack your bento box! I was itching to use this really tiny three-tiered box that I got this summer but I should have first thought about all of the food in my fridge - which was the same color as the box! Golden tomatoes and snap peas, tortilla sandwich (barely touched), cheese cubes, peaches and yogurt pretzels.

And because I'm slow to learn, I did the exact same thing the next day, this time with a yellow box! My sandwich pinwheels were a fail - not round and cute after all, though DD did like them. They were very filling for her, though - I used two pieces of flattened bread - and she couldn't finish it. Golden tomatoes, peaches, raspberries and another yogurt pretzel.

Another fail! I used my new Lunch Punch puzzle cookie cutters on the sandwich. After that was done, DD said she wanted to use the pig bento box - and the sandwich didn't fit. So I separated the puzzle sandwich between the tiers, threw in some (very dark and delicious) black grapes, baby tomatoes, cheese cubes and yogurt pretzel, plus a few sprinkles for the "pig" theme of the box. (A little tip: I always use cookie cutters before I make the sandwich, just on the plain bread. It makes for much easier clean-up.)

Homemade sealed sandwich with a Mickey cut-out on the front, some black grapes are underneath the sandwich propping it up, plus snap peas, raspberries and a marshmallow star. And can I say how proud I am that my DD has gone from disliking snap peas to eating them first!

I made a few more side dish fruit/veg bentos this week, too. I know I've said it before, but it's nice to be able to pack up food and take it on outings, and the food looks just as nice when we get there as it did when we left. Just make sure you pack your containers nice and full, so nothing shifts around. I don't feel as bad giving DD a zoo lunch of chicken and fries if I know she's had a big helping of strawberries first (and believe me, she ALWAYS eats the strawberries first!).

Have a great week, everyone! PIP your cute lunches here - hopefully they'll be better than mine this week!

  • For the sprinkles, I use a toothpick to apply a tiny dab of peanut butter and it sticks perfectly, even on the go. FYI, honey does not work. I'm sure cream cheese would, though.

  • Where do you get the Lunch Punch cutters from?  I found them on Amazon but I was wondering if you found them for less than $14.50 a set.

I got them for $11.99 (it's 4 cutters). Normally I wouldn't spend that much on a cookie cutter, but they were exceptionally cute and I thought they'd work for other craft things.

  • I'm definitely new to this.  We've only been doing cute lunches for a couple of weeks.  Here are two of mine that I have taken pictures of.   I don't have any fancy tools yet so these are all cut out by hand.  Still didn't take too long though.
