Back from vacation and despite AF showing up and a melt down at the Magic Kingdom, it was very fun and relaxing. Now back to the real world which means surgery on Thursday. We have decided to do the laparoscopy that my RE recommended. Not sure what to expect as far as recovery time? Also hoping we only miss this cycle to TTC? Any words of wisdom from those who have had this procedure?

Re: Going under this week
Hi Rorr2, welcome back! I have lots of practical words of wisdom in regards to this procedure. First of all, it is not as scary as is seems ahead of time, so don't worry too much (as I did). Second of all, do make advance preparations so that your recovery goes smoothly.
Preparations I would suggest: have a couple of pairs of soft, low waisted yoga pants or the like on hand and cozy shirts to wear for the week or so following your sugery. I was living in yoga pants paired with soft cotton close fitting tank tops. Some people experience nausea from anesthesia, if you are one of these people, or think you might be, you can request a scopolamine patch, I did and had zero nausea. Also, I would suggest having stool softeners and senna on hand, and begin taking those as soon as you get home. Most people find that they have trouble getting things going again after surgery, and if you take opiod drugs, this problem is made worse.
On the subject of drugs-- I was prescribed percoset and found that I really did not need to take it. A decent amount of advil was all I needed to deal with the minor surgical pain I had. And on the subject of pain-- the gas pain I found to be the worst part of all this. I needed to sleep propped up and taking shallower breaths helped keep the pain away. I also was friendly with my heating pad.
Every person is going to be different with regard to recovery time, and the type of job you are going back to also depends on how long you need to take it easy at home. I had surgery on a Friday, and I went back to a fairly active job (lab work) the next Wednesday. I wasn't allowed to drive or ride my bicycle or anything right away. I think I got back on my bicycle for transportation a week after my surgery. I was riding very gently at that point.
Lastly, I was not allowed to TTC or use tampons for 2 weeks post surgery. So, for me, since I was made to take BCP the month prior to my surgery, I was able to TTC the following cycle, because I did not O until more than 2 weeks after. You probably would not want to try to TTC before 2 weeks has passed anyway
.
Good luck! I hope that it helps make progress in the TTC department for you. I am not sure how much it has helped me, but it was good to finally get a diagnosis.
IVF #1 ET 1 d3 embryo 10/30/11 BFP
3 Embryos frozen (1 d5, 2 d6)

FET #1 ET 1 d5 embryo 02/10/15 BFN
FET #2 1 d6 embryo didn't survive thaw, transferred last d6. CP
What prompted them to order the lap for you? I am just curious since the nurse also suggested one for me when I had a completely clear HSG.
Good luck rorr2!

Thanks for the info! I usually have a pretty good tolernace for pain, so hopefully that will continue. I plan on going back to work on Monday. I can mostly stay at my desk and have my staff run around for me if needed. :-)
I hate the thought of completely missing a cycle, but if if give me some answers, then I guess it will be worth it.
My RE suggested it mostly because he has found a high percentage of women with no other known issues actually have endo or what he calls a "silent infection." We will probably be moving on to injectibles next and I will only have three cycles paid for by my insurance so he wants to make sure all is clear before starting that. He's the best in my area, so I am trusting him that this is the right thing to do. Hopefully it is!
Wishing you an easy procedure. And fast results!
