March 2012 Moms

Eek! I *think* we have agreed on a name!

DH and I have banned talking about names since we got into a huge fight about it early on this summer when I first got pregnant. Well, today I was daydreaming and he asked what I was thinking about. I told him I was thinking of baby names and he asked what one. I said "no, I don't want to fight about it if you don't like it." He insisted I tell him.

Well, the name is Dean Evan Hudson H___. Dean is my dad's middle name, Evan is DHs middle name and Hudson is my FILs middle name. He said, "Hmmm. I like it!" I was so shocked! So, for now at least, that's our name if Little Bean is a boy! :) That was easy! Now if it's a girl...sigh lol.

  • I like the name Dean. It's classy and masculine. Having two middle names is NMS, but I do like that you chose ones that have such a strong meaning to you and your husband.

Yeah I'm iffy on the two muddle names still as well. I just figured if my dad was being honored and DH was too, that FIL might feel slighted if he wasn't included somehow.

  • I can totally understand. While he probably wouldn't, we're facing the same problem. For my family's influence on our baby naming, I'm mostly using people who have passed, since my family is relatively small. My husband's family is all still alive and kicking and picking one name over another makes me feel like playing favorites.

The MNs you chose are short enough that I think it could definitely work, especially since the entire name has such a strong meaning. It has made me re-think some of our MN choices... maybe I won't be so hesitant to have two middle names. Plus, you have a 50/50 chance that the baby is a girl and then you wouldn't have to make a decision.

MH and I both have 2 middle names. He's Portuguese and it's traditional to have your mom's maiden name as your second middle name. So when we got married I figured it made sense to keep my maiden name as my second middle name too. And our kids will probably have it as their second middle name. Which I love - I didn't want to let it go!

I think it's a great name to honor the important men in your's and YH's lives. Smile

  • We have barely talked names at all. With our daughter, we decided on our girl name before we even knew what we were having. This time, I doubt we'll even talk about it until after our big u/s! We used the only girl name we even considered, so if we're having another girl it's going to be tough!

  • Aw, that's awesome!  We have a first name for a boy or girl picked out, but we keep playing with middle names.  My MIL always says DS's first and middle name (which drives us nuts b/c she emphasizes the middle name), so we want to pick a middle name we like hearing a LOT...or pick two names so every time she says it, it's a mouth full ;-)
