Lurker with a random question. Chineese staircase

So MH and I had planned to sell out 1 bedroom condo and buy a 3+ bedroom house before LO was born.  However, with the market how it is, we are now planning to pull the condo off the market and rent it out, while renting our own two bedroom.  We went to look at one today that we really liked.  Its in the perfect area, has two floors, two full baths, dog friendly.  All and all it will do for a year.  The one problem.. it has a Chinese staircase (the skinny spiral kind).  We plan to only be there for a year so should be gone before lo starts to crawl but....  here are my questions:

1. will I be able to make it up and down the stairs in a few months? (there are stairs in the building outside of the unit that I could use...)

2. the bedrooms are on two different floors.  Will that matter?  LO will be in our room for the first three or so months anyway.

3. even if we move by the time lo is 6 moths will it be safe (obviously there will be a baby gate)?

ETA:  I posted this on another board but thought maybe people in the DC area would understand the space issue more.

Re: Lurker with a random question. Chineese staircase

  • Our bedroom is upstairs as is our shower.  When I had my emergency c-section with #1 the stairs were difficult but I could do them once a day to use the shower and the rest of the time we all stayed on the main level.  As long as you go slow and don't have to do the stairs too often I don;t think it would be an issue even if you have a rough recovery from a possible c-section (my first recovery was rough).

After you move LO to their own it may be a little more of a middle of the night pain to go upstairs for feedings but hopefully after 3 mo they will get less frequent.
