3rd Trimester

Not going to be online for a few weeks

and I don't want a Tarta alert sent out for me Stick out tongue

Seriously though.  I have been thinking a lot lately about how this election is causing me fear and panic,to the point of keeping me up at night.  It's probably because I'm pregnant, but whatever it is I don't think it's healthy.  I have been praying lately for a way to avoid feeling this way.  DH and I have decided to go on a media-strike until the end of the election.  This means no TV, newspaper, talk radio, Internet or political discussion of any kind.  I need this time to clear my head and focus on what is really important.

So, love to you ladies.  I'll see you in a few weeks.

Re: Not going to be online for a few weeks

  • wow. well, i guess we'll be blessed with your presence in 2+ weeks. ?see you soon!

  • I know what you mean. We have practically banned all political media in our house. See you soon!
  • Good Luck! that actually sounds like a good idea but I don't know if I could last that long without email!

  • It's interesting because I'll probably end up feeling the same way that you might if "the other guy" wins -- but I'm on a different side of the voting fence than you. So I'd try to assure you by saying - if my guy wins, I don't think anyone should be scared. But then again, I would be depressed if your guy wins. So yeah....I'm not much help there am I!? Good luck with your media strike.

I have to check email for work purposes.

  • I've always been a news junkie and my husband has to make me turn the channel sometimes because I'm GLUED to it. I really do feel better when I don't watch it for a while - or at least watch it so much.

Have fun on your media break!

  • Why don't you just dig your bunker now and hide in it for the next 8 years? It chafes me so much that it was 'un-American' to disagree with or complain about the current administration and talk about how another country did X better, but now that a Democratic party candidate is looking like he will win, you people are all 'let's build a compound and hide in it'. That's *** un-American, and I wish you would leave the country.
  • Really? I guess I don't understand... All you can do is vote and hope your candidate wins. What happens if yours doesn't? Do you go and hibernate in the woods for 4 years?

Not trying to be snarky, just trying to understand...

Because I plan to stay here and do what I can to change it for the better, even if I have to suffer through politicians at every level who I dislike or fundamentally disagree with. I'm not going to have a panic attack and form a compound because a Republican wins an election. That would be douchey.

"douchey" is you telling someone to leave the country because they are avoiding the media for a few weeks. ?But I guess you are better than everyone. ?Or at least more annoying....?

Well I'm clearly keeping you entertained, glad to help!

Perhaps you don't have any context about adamwife. She constantly half-jokes about moving to a compound in Montana after Obama wins, and her DH thinks he will need survival guides and supplies for the civil unrest that will follow. I've seen multiple threads on 2nd tri over the last month where they joke about leaving the country depending on who gets elected. It's disgusting, 'un-American', and exactly the kind of thing that Republicans made fun of for the last 8 years - iI.e. 'If you don't like it, you can geeet out!'

    So uh, I call shenanigans!

  • Very entertained. ?What else is there to do on a rainy day in Seattle... I thought you were serious.

  • Good for you and your husband!!! Relax and enjoy the peace and quiet.Smile
  • if you don't understand what littlegypt said, you may have missed the context with this particular OP.

adamwife, i wish you luck.  i also think you may want to talk with someone about your fears, because it doesn't seem rational that you are this worried about the election.

Get a job? Seriously, if you just moved here, get used to it. Also, it's sunny on the Eastside :)

  • Not fair...and ya the weather sucks. ?Where on the eastside are you? ?Mercer Island here.

Not quite in the Mercer Island bracket yet! I work at Microsoft and live close-ish to work. I like the weather, but I grew up here. You can feel smug about it when it's August and you don't even need A/C.

  • So thats why you are used to the weather. ?I half grew up here and half in NY but went to college in Az so coming back here was a shock. ?I <3 Microsoft. ?

  • Serious advice: Take some Vitamin D. You will probably become deficient.

  • Yep, avoiding all information is a perfect way to vote the issues that might actually affect you.
