okay my sister is in town and her 16mo old just got his mmr on monday. He broke out in measles today..I have never heard of getting them after the shot. Anyway, is this the same contagious measles? I am supposed to see them SUnday, and now am freaked out about it, and think im going to have to pass.
what would you do? Have you heard of this...
Re: measles after mmr
Our GP said it's normal for babies to break out in a very mild measles rash after the MMR. If it gets worse and they have a fever along with the rash to book them in for an appointment. DS just got his MMR on monday after a long battle with our allergist, so he's got a follow up appointment on Thursday next week (10 days post vax).
I've been told that the rash shows up usually around day 9. I'd have your sister book an appointment.
This. I'm often paranoid.
It is not the measles. The shot contains an inactive form of the measles to build immunity and some kids react by breaking out in a rash that looks like the measles. It is just a side effect and is not contagious.
My son did not have the reaction but my DD did. The rash lasted about 3 days.
This is fresh in my mind since my DD just got her first dose of this vaccine on Monday.
Since it is an active vaccine, rather than inactive, our doctor said that 5% of children will come down with a very mild case of the measles and it is not something to worry about unless symptoms seem severe. As far as it being contagious, I am not sure, but I would definitely ask our pedi if I were in your shoes.

thanks ladies. my sis said 'rash/bumps' are all over him, no fever as of last night.
yes, DS was vaccinated already.
I'll call office this morning, just to ease my mind.
