I posted this over on the nest, but wanted to see if any of my fellow March Mommas have ever followed Dave Ramsey's plan. How did it work out? What were your successes? TIA!
I followed Crown Financial. They follow the same principals from Larry Burket that Dave Ramsey follow so it is along the same lines. I just did not like how Dave Ramsey is so in your face about how to control money. He is very effective for people who need his personality, but I always felt like I was getting yelled at.
I have a friend who teaches Dave Ramsey so her and I talk a lot and the his method is very effective. Using Crown, my hubby and I set up a spending plan and are officially debt free as of next month of all credit card debts.
The other thing with Crown Financial is that the books are free at the library, along with podcasts. I could not see spending money on Dave Ramsey and have to go to the classes weekly.

We looked into Dave Ramsey a couple of times, but have never decided to jump on board. From what I've heard on the outside, his methods are really strict and all about saving for the future, with little focus on what you're doing today. I appreciate that, and if you are drowning in debt it's prolly what needs to happen to get you out of it. DH and I have no cc debt. We have a mortgage, car loans, and student loans. Right nwo we're facing some medical debt, but our plan makes that a short term situation. We follow a pretty strict budget, we use a calculator and only spend X amount at the grocery store. We don't have smart phones, we don't have cable. I feel like we're frugal. Still, I think he would tell us to get rid of our newer cars so we could pay more on our loans and house.
I think it's a lot easier to give advice about money when you have so much of it yourself!
DH is a big fan of Dave Ramsey. We don't follow his plan exactly but what we are doing works for us. We still keep a credit card but its no where near maxed out and we have a savings account that we keep a minimum amount in for any emergencies that pop up. The savings account has been a life saver for us. DH's car messed up this month and we just pulled it out of savings and are putting it back in but it didn't affect the rest of our budget. If you have debt I would encourage you to find what works for you and do it. It is worth it to see our debt disappearing and to have a plan for money each month.
We have read his books and set up a budget like he recommends back in January. It has been amazing for us. We make decent money and are not drowning in debt, but since following his steps I really do feel like we have found 'financial peace'. I do agree with some PP about some of his methods being very strict. We dont follow his stuff to a T, but do what works for us. We set up a plan last month to get our house paid off in the next 6 years and we are both really excited about it.
DH and I love Dave Ramsey! We bought the home study kit that comes with the DVD's which was more convenient for us since DH travels for work sometimes. DH has a short attention span but the videos are funny and VERY interesting. We struggled when we got married with our different personalities when it came to spending but Financial Peace really put us on the same team. We will be completely debt free (except for our house) by the time LO arrives. It is so amazing to think about all the possibilities we will have with extra money to spend on and take care of LO. I highly recommend it!!

I listen to the Dave podcasts almost daily and have read TMM. I handle my and DH's finances, so I try to keep up mostly on track, but we don't follow to a t.
We follow it loosely. I like to save and pay a little extra on debt at the same time. It just works for me.
I will not go to Financial Peace U because everything they teach, I have learned from the podcasts. I do not do the envelope method. I spend cash more than I spend the debit card.

We've never really read any books or anything, but we do do his envelope system and pay with cash. We have also never had any credit card debt and never plan to ever carry a balance. We work hard towards our debt but also want to be able to enjoy life along the way.

There are a lot of things in his system that are good and then some that go too far. Never hold off on saving for the future. You need balance between paying for past debts, current expenses and things that you will need in the future. If you are haivng troubles doing this, seek the help of a true financial planner.
