Two Under 2

Do you cook a lot?

We used to eat out about 4-5 times per week and we still did after DS was born.  Now, with two, the cost and inconvenience, we eat at home a lot.  I don't really like cooking, but I do it and try to come up with creative meals for our family.  It's hard.

What do you do to make it easier?  Do you freeze meals?  I feel like I'm cooking and cleaning all day long.  I work mostly afternoons from 6-midnight, so I'm doing 90% of the meals.

I just feel like I'm stuck in a rut and can't get out.  At least tell me I'm not alone...

  • You are definitely not alone.

I don't freeze meals, but during the week our dinner's are pretty simple- spaghetti & meatballs, tacos, etc.

I cook "nicer" meals on the weekends because DH is home & I have more time to.

  • My DH does most of the dinner cooking, but we still struggle with what to make.  He's doing a pot roast in a crock pot for tonight.  You are not alone.  I keep telling myself to menu plan for less stress, but can't seem to bring myself to do it.
  • Yes, I cook a lot. Pretty much every day. I LOVE to cook though, so it's not a big deal for me........

We like to eat out too, but we're not big "take out" people. We only really have 2 take out places that we like around here.

  • I cook most nights. Sometimes DH cooks and sometimes we get take out or go out. I have probably 15 or 20 staple meals I can make with my eyes shut. I try and make something brand new every few weeks and if it's good I add it to a list of dinners so I don't forget about it. Then try and introduce it to the regular rotation.

I don't meal plan. I buy whatever meat is discounted and when I get home I freeze some and figure out what I'm gonna make with the rest. If I make bolognaise I'll usually freeze enough for dinner for DH, DS and I so we always have at least one meal in the freezer as back up.

  • We used to eat out or carry-out almost every night, until DD1 was old enough to eat meals with us. Then DH cooked most of the time. We just moved to a smaller house with a teeny kitchen and no counter space, and DH hates the oven here so he has not cooked much since we moved. We feed DD1 separately most of the time, and then we eat crap for dinner. We're both tired of it but not yet motivated enough to cook more or meal plan.

  • I cook most nights, but I love cooking.  When I first had ds, and briefly after adding dd, I used my crockpot a lot.  I'd also prep a lot when ds was napping, like chopping and then putting in the fridge for later.

My blog has a lot of simple to make recipes.  I also am doing a Rachal Ray thing where I prep for 20 dinners in one day and freeze them, so dinner is ready usually in 10 minutes.  It's on my blog.

  • I cook 4 outa 5 nights. I stay home so I cook dinner during nap time 1-3pm. I use the bbq alot, I love grilling seasoned chicken & steak.
