Babies: 0 - 3 Months

weird ?.. how to pick up..

is it ok to pick up my 6 1/2 week old under her arms ( in armpit area)as long as head is supported?  I usually pick her up one hand behind head and one behind back and or butt. but the other day I noticed my mom when she was moving baby to a different position holding her she picked her up under her arm pits. just wondering if this would strain there little muscle or what..

  • I do it all the time. My baby has really good head control though so I'm pretty lax on that now. As long as you have a good grasp of the baby I don't think it matters how you do it. Babies aren't really all that breakable.

Me too.  It actually kind of annoys me when people are "too careful" with him.  He isn't made of crystal...

  • Totally okay. If your LO doesn't have awesome head control, you can support their bean with your remaining fingers behind their head. I do "tummy time" like this a lot so that LO and I can have more interaction while he's working his bean.
