Hopefully, DH and I are going to be in the TTC boat before the end of the year. Maybe not, but hopefully. Anyway, I've been back and forth on TTC but we finally decided we do want more, just not 100% sure when. I have yet to schedule my annual, and it's way overdue. I had thought about making it with a new doctor, but when I was thinking maybe no more babies it made sense to stick with the OB who saw me during my pregnancy.
The "old" doctor delivers at the local hospital which does not attend VBACs. (Not that they should! I mean if you can't handle a simple induction....) The practice I'm considering delivers at a hospital that allows them and there is a doula service in the same town. We'll call this hospital A.
Hospital B allows VBACs, but won't get back to me about c/s rates. My sister delivered her first there via emergency c/s. It was totally necessary! But that still gives me a twinge. A friend delivered there and a had a c/s because she'd been pushing for 3 hrs. and getting nowhere. She's very small, but the baby wasn't big??? Another friend delivered there vaginally, but the LCs didn't help her much (one of the LCs this hospital uses is the one who got me relactated!)
I'm not apposed to using a midwife, but I would rather use one in a hospital. I think that a annual exam is a perfect time to talk TTC with a doctor. WDYT? Does hospital B sound like it should be avoided?
Oh, Hospital A is 1.5 - 2 hrs. away. Hospital B is about 1.5 hrs. And Hospital A is fairly new. The women's center was recently rebuilt.

Re: TTC a VBAC baby...in a few months
Do you have an ICAN chapter nearby? That would be my first step in learning more about the hospitals and practices. The newness of the building would be one of the last things I took into consideration, imo.
The hospital that I ended up at was much older than my c/s hospital and the LC services were not great either. Actually they only had one LC and she was out sick when I had my VBAC, I felt so bad for the new moms who needed help. However, the practice I went with had an awesome VBAC rate and I was able to deliver in the Alternative Birth Center at the hospital.
Do you have a local board you can ask for specifics about each hospital? Maybe there can be more info.
I am in a similar situation. I love my ob, he is very vbac supportive, but I hate the hospital. I am pretty sure I will use it though, since it is really close, and I was super dilated prelabor, so I am nervous about going somewhere farther.
Good luck!
