the word HUGE

I hope you don't mind if I vent about this here.

Why do people feel comfortable using the word HUGE to describe anyone? Yes, I know I am pregnant. Yes, I am pregnant with twins. Yes, I popped early. But I still find it rude.

My college roommate asked me, "Why are you so huge?" And she knows I am pregnant with twins! The cashier at the grocery store today said something about how I am already big and will be huge later on.

I AM NOT THAT BIG. I am normal weight when not pregnant and I have gained a surprising amount for the 1st tri, but I am not disproportionately ginormous. And I know it is just going to get worse.

Oh, I'm sorry, it is going to get so much worse!  I was the same as you.  I am very thin so I was visibly pregnant by 13 weeks too.  By 30 weeks I was comical looking bc I looked thin with a crazy big belly.  I literally hated leaving my house bc of all the comments.  And yes HUGE was something I heard daily.  But, luckily, a lot of people will tell you nice things too...so try to hang in there!

Well, come on, you're pregnant with twins! It's not meant to be insulting, I don't think. It is what it is! :)

I'm still trying to figure out why people in general think a pregnant woman's body is fair game for discussion, to touch, to comment on. It's like it becomes public property and people around become insensitive and rude. My boobs "popped" well before my belly did and got SO sick of those close to me making comments. Um, I'm not a porn star, my boobs shouldn't be dinner conversation.

I frequently will say something in responsd when I think it's hurtful or rude. Not snarky, just something like "wow, that was awkward" just to make that person rethink how inappropriate that type of commentary is.

Also - don't forget to take the lesson with you. As much as I hate it, I've found that I also have to stop myself from feeling like I have some right to make comments on how my friends' bodies are changing while pregnant. Now I only say "you look great".. or if they don't, well the I keep my mouth shut.

Thanks, mrs.cam. I might have to hide during the holidays when I am in my 3rd tri!

I know that you are right. People are very excited for me and very surprised and I think in their surprise they speak very honestly (not just about my size, but also about how hard they think twins might be, etc.)

I learned this in my 1st pregnancy (when, oddly enough most people told me I was carrying really small). I think that the only thing people should say to a pregnant woman is, "You look great!"  But to pea-kay's point, I need to remind myself that most people mean well.

I'm so sorry.  Unfortunately, it's only going to get worse the further along you get.  I went almost to 37 weeks and I'll admit, I was huge.  It sucks that you're getting the comments so early though.

Ugh, the same thing happened to me yesterday. "why are you so huge already?" I know it's going to get much worse and I may end up kicking off on someone at least once.

I hate to say but it does get worse, like others have said.  I think I was 28 weeks when I started getting comments like, You're gonna pop any day now!  And You must be due now!?!  These from strangers who didn't know me or the fact that it was twins.  I'd just smile and say no, not ready yet...it's twins.

People have been asking me if it's soon for the past few weeks.  Besides "huge," why can't people think of anything besides a house to compare you to?  How about a little creativity people?

Well, huge is still better than fata$$.

Unfortunately, it will only get worse! People lose their brain to mouth filter around pregnant women, I swear. Must be the hormones.

    Ha ha=)

I know for me at just under 30 weeks, most of the people that saw me during my last pregnancy, which wasn't that far off as J is almost 19 months now, keep telling me "you are HUGE compared to how you were with J!"..... Duh!=) There are two in there!

    Hang in there!

You're 13 weeks. It's going to get a lot worse before it gets better. I didn't look at all pg at 13 weeks. FF to my induction day and I measured 53 weeks or something completely ridiculous. I was huge! Ignore the comments or smile and nod, they only get worse and more frequent. Wink

I agree that most people probably mean well. But, it will get a lot worse believe me. Two days before I delivered, a complete stranger asked me across a very full hospital lobby, "Wow, how much weight have you gained? Does it hurt? That must hurt".  I was huge temporarily, but he'll always be a moron. :)

It would bother me if I were at your current gestation....but....huge pretty accurately describes me now LOL  Hang in there, comments about your body, your babies and your upcoming life changes are only going to get worse.  :(
