PP bleeding/spotting

Is it safe to have sex if you are still spotting at 7 weeks post partum?

I had a c-section and my follow up appointment was at 4 weeks but I was still bleeding pretty heavily then.  My doctor told me it was safe to have sex again when the bleeding stopped,  but since then it keeps stopping for a couple days and then starting again.  Currently l have random spotting...does this mean I am still healing and at risk for infection? I can't seem to get ahold of my doctor today and I was wondering other doctors have said.

    My LO is 7 weeks tomorrow and I just had my pp appt. this AM.  I am still spotting but was given the go-ahead for sex.  She said to wear condoms though since I'm not on the pill yet.

    My bleeding keeps coming back every week or so for a few days.  It's annoying.
