gym instuctor vent (kinda long)

I am very annoyed with my gym instructor. I have been working out with the same group of ladies for over a year now, taking the same classes every week with them and the same instructor, which normally I love. After my instructor found out I was pregnant now she is very concerned about me and my baby. (this doesn?t help with my worries already) I am trying to keep exercising during this pregnancy as before. We regularly do palates, yoga, weight training, spin, zumba and circuit training.

She wont let me participate in half of the exercises we do. She doesn?t want me to do abs, weights,  or even some of the yoga. At first I was excited to get to skip parts of my workout but now I am annoyed, my doctor has given me limits, watch my heart rate, don?t over do it, keep weights under 10lbs but hasn?t changed much.

The instructor doesn?t want the liability however and tells me not to do more and more each time I go, so now I am sitting out for 30 minutes of our hour long class, so I warm up, work out for like 10 minutes and cool down. She doesn?t want me to kickboxing, squats, push-ups, oh so much that my doctor says is fine, she doesn?t agree with my doctor.

I live in a small town with limited exercise options but something has to change, I don?t go to the gym to sit and watch!!

I am thinking of ordering workout DVDs and doing them at home, some targeted towards pregnancy, any suggestions?

  • I'd try to sit down with her after a workout one day and explain your concerns.  It may be helpful to have a doctor's note with you explaining what is and what is not acceptable in terms of exercise.

  • maybe you could sign a waiver releiving her of any liability. Something that says you know the risks involved (if any) and you accept them.?? IDK just a thought.

  • Are you paying for the class/membership?  I'd sit down with the instructor, tell her your doctor said it was fine, but if she is worried then you'd like your money back (or a reduction in your rate).

I don't know about the DVDs, but I've been thinking about doing the same.  I don't comitting to a class at a gym because if something comes up I don't want to feel like I've wasted money.
