Does anyone know a good OBGYN and hospital in the Lexington area? We are moving there soon and have to find a new dr. Any help would be so appreciated! Thanks!!
I'd recommend the Women's Care Center at Central Baptist (which has one of the best L&Ds in the area). If you are looking for a single doctor practice, Dr. Magdalene Karon was really good out of St. Joseph East (they just built a new standalone birth center). Both hospitals are excellent, it depends on what side of town you are looking at and whether you want a one doctor practice or a multi-doctor/midwife practice. Hope this helps and good luck!

I agree with the previous poster in that probably most important is whether you want one doctor (or midwife) or a practice with multiple docs. Also some practices are only female if that matters to you. I think both hospitals may list the docs who deliver on their website. Or you can probably google Lexington OB's and check out the practices' website. Let me know if there's anything specific that you want or don't want and that may help narrow down the choices some... Good Luck!

Central Baptist...but that may be b/c I work in L&D there But, on a serious note I think we have a fantastic hospital with a bunch of great doctors. I recently had my son and I went to Lexington Womens Health...I saw Dr. Cunningham. I love her! I also really like Dr. Fuson from that group. It is an all womens group and they also have midwives. I would also recommend Lexington OBGYN...Dr. Owen or Dr. Parrott...both men. But I seriously LOVE them...they are very caring towards their patients. Good Luck!

I'm a physician assistant also living in Lexington. Both CB and St.Joe East are great places to deliver, depending on what you want and where you live.
Considerations...
1. Location? Do you want to be delivering at the hospital closest to you or do you not care/woudl other ideas be worth a little extra diving.
2.Are you having a VBAC or do you want a C-section or do you want to do a vaginal delivery? In Lexington, UK and SJE have a 30% C-section rate in their deliveries--which is right at the national average. CB is at 50% . If you prefer a C-section, all are going to be experienced for sure. If you'd like to wait it out for a VB, SJE or UK might be better options, have more patient physicians, etc.
Personally, I went with Dr. Tamara James at SJE. I work at SJM and I also wanted to make sure that my family doctor (Double certified in both internal medicine and pediatrics) had neonatal privledges at that hospital so they could also visit me in the hospital and perform baby's first check-up post-delivery. Also, the location closer to the interstate was better for me, as I know I'll have excited grandparents flying down I-75 anxiously waiting to get to the hospital!
All things to consider and for YOU to weight what's most important for YOUR delivery. Good luck!
