Prenatal appointment scare...

At my prenatal visit this morning my ob couldn't find LO's heartbeat so of course out of paranoia I started thinking bad thoughts of when I was 16 weeks pregnant 10 years ago and the same thing happened and when the ultrasound was performed the baby wasnt moving and I had to get a D&C.

So of course I was so scared. She gave me a quick ultrasound to make sure everything was ok. We still didnt see the heartbeat but she said my LO was moving around so much she couldnt pick up the heartbeat. I dont know if it was that or she just didnt want to take the time to look for it. If I hadnt seen my baby kicking and moving around so much I would of not have let her leave the room until I seen the heartbeat. My cervix is tilted so my first ultrasound that I had done when I was 10 weeks had to be done vaginally, and my OB told me that as long as we see LO kicking and moving in there the baby is fine. My cervix was just too tilted to see the heartbeat through the abdominal ultrasound procedure. I was scared for a moment but at the same time relieved that everything was ok and I got a chance to see another sneak peek of my LO before my more in depth ultrasound in September Big Smile

Re: Prenatal appointment scare...

  • I'm sorry you went through that!

We had a similar thing happen at our last appointment . They tried to find the heartbeat with the doppler but couldn't.  Then our midwife brought in the ultrasound.  When she started looking she all of a sudden got completely quiet - scared us so badly!  We could see the baby, but it wasn't moving at all.  Finally she found the heartbeat, and was clearly very relieved.  She made sure to stay on the heartbeat for a long time so we could be reassured.  It's so scary!  I can't wait until we are farther along and can really feel them for reassurance!

  • It's the scariest thing! This is my third baby so I can feel flicks at the bottom of my belly from time to time but I hadnt felt anything since the yesterday so I was soooo nervous!! I'm like you though I'm waiting on those infamous big kicks to confirm that everything is ok!
