health concern...could it be something in our home?

We just moved to the Alexandria Va area from Florida...we are renting a house built in 1942. We have only been here one week and my son is coughing, sneezing and has had three bloddy noses, my baby is also sneezing with a runny nose as well as my husband. The owners put in brand new carpet in the basement (which is where they spend a lot of time) and the rest of the house (except for the upstairs) is wood. Any ideas what could be causing this?

Could be that or allergies.  The DC metro area is notorious for bad allergies.  Have you seen your ped?

i was going to say that! whenever we go out of town and come back my allergies act up. i would check your air filters as well!
