professional photography

How much have you spent???  This will be an outdoor fall session.

Mini Sessions
-25 minutes of session time (super great for youngsters!)
-Online gallery of approx. 25 edited images
-Disc of edited images with reprint rights release (you print where and when you want!)
-$175 plus sales tax

Is that a good deal???  She does beautiful work and it would basically be DS's 2 year old pictures.  I hate being cheap!!!

Re: professional photography

  • I don't think it is bad. Sounds good. No one says you need to spend $600 on pictures. My ds is so timid that we had 2 year pics done at walmart photo studio and all he did was cry. Glad i only spent $20 on crying pics.

  • I think it depends on how much printing will cost you.  I did prof pics of DS at 18 months.  I spent just under $400 but she did all the printing.. 3 different locations.. spent like 2 hours with us.  If you end up printing a lot.. you may end up spending just as much as you would have had someone did all of that for you.

This year, I'm having a friend of mine who does photography out of her home do DS's pictures in October.  She charges $75 for a sitting fee.  She has no time limit. No location limit.  She edits 15 pictures.. gives you the cd with all the pictrues she took plus the 15 edits she did.. and you print what you want wherever you want to print them.. you have all the rights to the images.

  • If the work is quality that's an awesome price!  I love photography and like to take photos but still pay for DD to have hers done.  I have paid up to $400 for shoot and prints on the high end and recently as low as $50 for a amateur friend photographer.

And, I always like when they give you the disk with rights to photos.

  • I think that is great if she truly is a professional and does consistenlty great work.  I would love to pay that to the cd of  edited images.

I have a friend who does it on the side and it is clear she is not a professional, would never pay that for her work.

  • Seems a bit high for a short period of time and 25 images. But not outrageous. If you like her work I would go with the deal.

  • That's super cheap, especially if you like her work.

Our photographer charges $450 for mini sessions.

    I like privacy. A lot.
  • We did something similar (got all the same things as you) for $125. I think it's a reasonable price.

  • I'm sure it depends on where you live, but the lady that does our photos charges $50 (new clients it is now $75), and she spends 1-2 hours wherever we want to have them taken.  We just did photos of our newborn and 3 year old and she came to our house and spent over 2 hours.  We get all of the photos on a disc already edited.  If there are more than 5 people in a group she charges $75 (new clients it is now $100).  I print the photos off myself or she will do them.  We just got our disc back the other day from our photo shoot and there were 142 images.

I would be interested to see the quality of this persons work.

  • I think that is a great deal!  If the work is quality work, I would definitely do it.  I would want a little bit more time just in case your DS is having a rough day, but the disc of images is a huge bonus for me.  Normally you have to pay a ton of money to get your images with a print release (at least in my area you do).
  • We spent $450 on a professional photographer...but that included ALL the digital images on a disc...and rights to the images so we could have them printed or do whatever we wanted to with them. We were very pleased with the quality and work (the photographer is a family friend) but it just hasn't been in the budget recently to do it again.
