What to do ??

DH and I have always had a great relationship we get along great. He's a corrections officer and his shift changes every 3 months, but right now he's working 4pm to midnight. Since we had DD, we try to have a date night at least once a month. But lately it doesn't seem like enough. It seems like all I wear is shorts/sweats and old T-shirts since I'm home with DD most of the day. And when he gets home which is usually almost 1am I'm so exhausted that all I can manage to do is jump in the shower, I don't have the energy to "fix myself up". But he always tells me I'm beautiful and everything but I don't feel like it. I think I'm just in a funk. Anyone else going through this... any advice???

  • I would invest in some cute lounge wear.

  • I doubt your husband expects you to be "fixed up" at 1AM.  He's lucky you're still awake at that time.  I know I'd be asleep at 1AM.    On the shifts that he's actually home at normal times then make an effort to look decent for him.  But I'm sure he's fine you being in pj's at 1AM.

  • I don't think I would wait up for him.  I'd go to bed early so that I could wake up early and take a shower then.  Spend your time together during the day before he goes to work.  Try to take have a lunch date.

  • I have struggled with my DH's schedule. He is also an officer and works 12 hour shifts with 1/2 hour meeting before the shift. His commute is 45 minutes-1 hour, so he leaves at 4:30 in the afternoon and gets home at 7:00am. As soon as he comes home, he goes to sleep.

What is your DH's sleep schedule? I usually try to look nice and have a nice meal prepared for DH before he goes to work. I can't imagine trying to look nice at 1am, other than just having cute loungewear like pp said.

We are on the 3 month rotation too, and i know that it can be a world of difference from day shift to night shift. Hang in there!

  • I can't wait until he gets back on day shift! But he usually gets home around 12:30 or 1:00 and he stays up for a little while so he can "wind down". He's at a federal maximum security prison so it's pretty rough. If he works a double shift(16 hours) which he's doing a lot lately because we're buying a house so we're trying to save as much money as we can, he leaves for work around 3 and doesn't get home until about 8:30 the next morning. I think we're just in a rut lol, he's always worn out when he gets home from work and so am I.
