TTC After a Loss

OBGYN or RE?

It's only been 1 1/2 months since I lost my baby, and I'm not even sure I'm emotionally ready to try again. But now that I physically can I want to be prepared. I can't decide if I should go back to the RE or stick to my OBGYN.

RE diagnosed me with PCOS, and put me on some kind of steroid. Second month on that, same month IUI was scheduled, I get pregnant, after trying for 14 months. So obviously the steroids ?fixed? whatever my issue was, and we could conceive without anything more invasive. The RE released me to my OBGYN after 2 heartbeats, and during my first appointment they tell me there is no heartbeat, missed miscarriage.  Devastated doesn?t even explain how I felt, but sadly you would all know that feeling.

So during my follow up OBGYN appointment they told me there is no need to go back to the RE, they?ll do my CD3 bloodwork and take it from there.  Well, I just went for the blood test (no results yet), and I noticed they only checked off 3 boxes on the script:  CD3, FSH, and something else?..  No LH, no androids, none of the things my RE tested.  I asked, and they said it wasn?t necessary. How can the LH not be necessary when that was part of my problem? So after I cried (everything makes me cry), they gave in and checked the LH box.  But aren?t they missing so much? Or does it not matter? I don?t know, I just don?t feel comfortable going to them; I feel like they think I got pregnant on my own, so no need to go back to the RE.  Am I being too needy?  Maybe if I have the same problem they could write me a script for the steroids.

Sorry this is so long. In your opinion: stick with the OBGYN for 3 months, or go right back to the RE?

Re: OBGYN or RE?

  • I am having this same issue. I was alrEady released from my RE since my loss was late. After speaking with my DH, we are not going back. We have decided to try it on our own for a while. I am making some dietary changes and am hoping it will help. We are not ready for e stress of going back to the RE. ThEre is no right and wrong here. It is what you are comfotable with. Since you have PCOS, it may be more difficult, but not impossible.

It sounds to me like you do not feel comfortable with your OB or the care you are getting there.  In this case, I recommend going back to the RE or at least finding a new OB who listens and understands your concerns better.

We are healthcare consumers, and should always choose doctors who provide us with the best possible care.

    Definitely this.

    Ditto

I learned the hard way and wasted a lot of time sticking with providers I didn't feel comfortable with.  If your ob is not listening to you I would definitely go back to your RE.

  • Thank you for the feedback.  You're right, time for a new doctor.  I just wanted to make sure I wasn't being unrealistic in my expectations.
