At 4 months I introduced about a tablespoon of cereal at her night time feeding. We did this for a couple of days and she continued to drink 8oz of formula afterward. After cereal, we did carrots, sweet potatoes, peas, bananas, apples, and then pears. I was told to do each food for a couple of days before moving on to the next. I have read that it doesn't matter what order you give the foods in.
For the first couple of weeks she would drinks 8oz for breakfast, 8oz for lunch, and for dinner she would have a tablespoon of baby food + 8oz.
After about week 3, I would give her fruits for one meal and veggies for the other. She continued drinking 8oz. There was finally a tipping point where she started trying to drink 8oz after eating a whole jar of food. She will eat and eat and eat if she isn't stopped. We cut back the formula after she started spitting up after every meal.
Now at 5.5 months, she drinks 8oz bottle for breakfast, eats a jar of food for lunch + 5oz, and for dinner she eats a jar of food + 5 oz. I still alternate the veggies and fruits.
